'Cheers' star Kirstie Alley has been attacked by members of the world's leading eating disorders group for joking about 'life threatening diseases' like bulimia on her new comedy show 'Fat Actress.'
Officials at the National Eating Disorder Center are furious with the actress for trivializing eating disorders during the debut of her new program.
In one scene, co-star Kelly Preston tells Alley's character that making herself sick after every meal is one way of losing weight- a practice commonly used by bulimics.
NEDA CEO Lyn Grefe says, 'My guess is that Kirstie Alley's concept for the show was born from her frustrations with the unreasonable standards found in the entertainment industry, frustrations that the NEDA understands.'
'However, there is nothing funny about eating disorders, and to make comic references to bulimia is dangerous.'
Nearly 10 million women and one million men suffer from this problem and it is estimated that another 25 million suffer from binge eating disorders.

So stop being a bulimic.
Problem solved.
Its no wonder the Romulans split from them.
But that Romulan ale! The Romulans must know how to party!
I saw her interviewd on Dateline or some such a few weeks ago. She comes across as a down to earth and funny gal. I hope her show does well. And the hand wringers need to go pound sand.
this is a pretty heavy subject, isn't it?
I agree. There are men out there who go for really big bods. I'm not a big fan of the Kirstie Alley-sized myself, but why overlook this demographic of fellow males just because the entertainment industry is fashioned after Miss Anorexia?
You have no idea what you're talking about. I'm not a "DU" poster and don't even know what that means. And, as a conservative, I'm perfectly happy posting on FR. A personal aversion to promiscuity and interracial relationships doesn't make me a "bigot." So try your poorly-veiled "threat" and "intimidation" tactics on someone else. You're outwitted here.
Actually I am none of those things.
But you have been reported for abuse.
"Ally McBeal" watchable? Not remotely.
Ah, I believe what was written was somewhat watchable.
Okay, I'll accept the statement with the qualifier. I will also stipulate that "watchable" is a relative term.

Look, whether you're some whack-job liberal college professor eternally stuck in adolescence trying to disrupt this forum, or some knuckle-dragging staff member at Bob Jones University, trust me when I say, you're not going to be happy here.
OK, I checked your homepage. So let's say you really are a female medical professional. What in your line of work or life experience has set you against interracial relationships?
I didn't think the part I saw was very funny. Actually I only saw about the first 45 seconds, and then I found the remote.
