The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Good morning! Another clear, beautiful, spring-like day! If it weren't for the muddy, slickery back roads...it'd be downright gorgeous!

Today they're having a farewell lunch for me. Most people are gone next week ('cept me), so we had to have it earlier. Free food, I'd assume! Though they're teasing me that I'm buying since now I'll be able to get a "real" job. ;-)

Good morning!

It's very overcast here, but supposed to clear off and be in the 70s tomorrow! Steve is going to take a half day off tomorrow! Which means he surely won't be in till late tonight.

g'nad, thought I wuz follerin' you in this mornin'. Truck in front of me had a bumper sticker whut said "gut deer?"

Also discovered this mornin' that Virginia has a specialty license plate fer "Parrot Heads." Glad our General Assembly is doing their job...fercryinoutloud.

Last, but most certainly not least...my Dad would've been 76 today.

Yah... woke up early. e-mail is kinda light... so thought I'd wander into the hole for a bit. Looks like another kinda grey and rainy day here in da bay area.

I think its supposed to be kinda crummy and wet all week here. Its especially funny since this was the trip where Hertz decided to give me a "free upgrade" in my rental car-- to a convertible. I guess the convertibles weren't moving much this week. :-) I don't think the top will be coming down much.

Free lunch, how great!

Yesterday was sunny. This morning's overcast but maybe it'll improve. Yawn. Have to accompany my friend on another of her prenatal visits so I've been awake since 6:30. I'm tired...

Ha! Would figure they'd give you the free upgrade on a crummy trip.

I don't think I've ever even ridden in a convertible! I don't know if I'd care for it...I don't even care for having the windows rolled down. My hair flies around and lashes me in the eyes and stuff. Even if I tie it back it comes loose. It's one of the main reasons I'm not a big fan of motorcycles...my hair comes loose from even under the helmet and gets all in my face. Then I have to loosen my death grip on the person driving the motorcycle to get my hair out of my face and I just know I'm gonna loose my balance (which isn't very good in even normal situations) and fall off!

Bicycles, horses...the hair doesn't give me any trouble.

Having an old vert Bug is supposed to be the be all end all (in the VW world), but I don't know...

I'm just feelin' bummed today 'cause I tried on that dress again and it's a little tighter than it was, despite that I've been good.

I guess magic underwear will help a bit, though...

Heh...I don't like my hair blowing around, either. It's not even completely logical how much it bothers me, and it drives my brothers crazy. I'll use the air in the car rather than having the windows open, but they want the windows ALL the way down ALL the time, just about.

What bothers me more, though, is the sound of that. Sounds bother me a LOT. Anyone who wanted to torture me would have me out of my mind pretty quickly if they decided to use noise.

Remember, water retention is a variable. Go easy on the salt right before the wedding!

Magic underwear fixes everything. Had to wear mine last week, and this coming Sunday no doubt.

I've been less than perfect lately. Hopefully once you come I'll be shamed out of eating like a college guy.

Probably will. I may completely avoid sugar for a week or so, though - after I'm done with Easter and the few days following.

And probably a big part of this is that I've never ever worn a fitted dress before. Ever. So I'm REALLY self conscious about this. I feel like a dress shouldn't ever require takin' a breath before zipping, though it's likely that's the way this is SUPPOSED to fit.

I just need to get walkin'! That's the biggest problem.

Speaking of which...I think Margaret and I are gonna have a blast exploring for a few days! Really looking forward to that. It'd be nice if I had a job interview in there somewhere, too...but not the end of the world if I don't have one for awhile.
