The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm jealous! :-P

*grin* I'm leaving the office now to start my 3 day vacation (5 if you count the weekend). Finally decided to take some time off and have fun with my kids. I'm taking them to the county fair tomorrow for food and rides. :-D

See you all later tonight!

Hey you guys remember my friend Darvis that posted on that flakey whistle forum and was also Freeper Rugerman? He donated all the pennywhistles to the troops in Afghanistan?

Well, he went to Jerusalem! He sent me this nice picture.

Here's a bigger version.

Oh yeah? Are they good wheels? What's a performance kit?

Cragar is a respected maker of racing wheels (you'll need racing tires, too). And a performance kit is an engine hop-up kit. You could probably use some of the performance stuff they put on VW dune buggies. You don't want a plain-vanilla VW, do you? :)

Heh! At this point, I'd settle for a VW that actually rolled!

My mom has wheels that look like daisies on her yellow New Beetle. I had to drive the stupid thing while home over Christmas.

Several times I was asked to run errands and such, so yeah, I had to.

Also I went to see a friend once and Dad wouldn't let me use his car. And my little sister had to use the family suv because the other cars are standard transmissions. So that was a use it or don't go case but I wasn't forced there.

At least you didn't have to walk! Or ride a unicycle...

I'd love New Beetle too...but talk about impractical with these two boys just growing and growing! Maybe a Jetta Wagon?

Hah, it's my mom's special car, the one she got when we were finally old enough to drive, or to stay home with the little ones. I think she really loves being able to ride around with only one or two of us at a time.

That does sound appealing! I love having one of my boys up in front with me. But they usually sit in the middle or back of the van and I can't hear a word they're saying...

When Matthew was a baby, I put his carseat (backward as required) in the front passenger seat of my Cavalier and would drive holding his hand. He'd stare up at me and I just held his hand all the time. I couldn't believe my luck. He he!

You want 'em now?

I don't have a slow cooker. I just soak them overnight, or I soak them while I'm at work. I drain them in the collander. Then I simmer them with some salt and some fat-back - bacon will do...or some bacon grease. Or you could just skip the fat (but it won't taste as good.) Simmer for about an hour or until tender. I like to add chopped onion for the last 10 or 15 minutes or so.
