New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |

Still round the corner there may wait |

Home is behind, the world ahead, |
I guess that's both good and bad!
In any case, I'm done with job applications for a bit. I'll hold off on anything more until I'm there.
NOW my main duty is to get everything either packed or mailed or both! And get the dress hemmed and the van checked and the tires swapped...
just discovered this :
Fine porcelain creators Lladro's has a new line out : three figures from Lord of the Rings.
I want Frodo and Galadriel!!!!!
You'll need to go to the "our selection" part.
You know what you need to do!! Get your butt to the doctor ASAP!!!!
Plenty to do, in other words!
It seems much more real to me now that I'm in the new place. All of a sudden, I'm realizing you'll be here in two and a half weeks... eek... I've got to get stuff put away.
You will get a job pretty quickly after you get there, I'm sure of that. Yes, it will cost some money to get there, no doubt about it, but isn't that part of the adventure? You've done so much better monetarily than you had thought you would when all this got started, you now have some cushion. Go with that, and don't worry about the trip. It will take care of itself. From what you've said, you're not going to be pushing yourselves too much on the trip, so I think it will be a great experience for both you and Mug!
What message?
I checked the title, it's "Legions of Space," and was the only Laumer book they had in Borders.
I'm not such a fan of Clarke, though I have read some of it. Haven't read much of Heinlein either, though there are endless Lazarus Long quotes, most all of which I like, posted on this forum.
I minored in philosophy in college, a discipline where they actually do try to figure out abstractions like "the Meaning of the Universe." What I came away from that with is that while I might wish I knew the answers, most of the arguments men have put forward are just a lot of BS, to put it politely.
Ah, that's a good one too. I didn't buy it because I have most of the stories in other, ancient collections. If there's a decent used bookstore around, check there, I've built quite a collection of Laumer's work that way.
I'm a fan of Clarke's short stories, but not his novels. Heinlein I love, at least his earlier work. But SF writers make pretty lousy philosophers, even if they're pretty good prophets.
No problem there - philosophers make lousy philosophers too, most of the time.
McFarlane toys is releasing a Conan series soon as well.
Makes you wonder why it's a subject people can get degrees in...
Remember that I'm gonna be making a horrible mess when I get there, what with unpacking and all...so don't worry about how everything looks! And I know you just moved, too!
Two weeks from now, we'll have been on the road for hours already. I can't wrap my mind around that.
You can't have that much to move in, one vanload is all. I'd just really like not have have boxes of stuff sitting around when you get here. Especially since I'm keeping the not-yet-unpacked things in your room... out of sight, out of mind...
I supposed so! And actually...doing the math, it's about a wash with driving vs flying. So...might as well take the scenic route. ;-) I really have no concept of how big this country is, and I've never passed through most of the states. This will help my edjumacation...
One vanload plus as many boxes as I can possibly mail before that...
I hope it doesn't end up being toooo much! I gotta keep reminding myself that it's not all ending up in the bedroom (it's almost all against one wall in Margaret's room now) - there are kitchen things and such, PLUS some things take up a lot more room packed just because of being an awkward shape or because of padding.
And there'll be room in the livingroom, too. Kitchen things are good!
I'm not looking at the paper for a desk yet since I couldn't get it home anyway. We'll have to wait until Van-sama's available.
Heck...they ought to do Jack and Stephen while they are at it...yes, I really did say that..
If only I hadnt spent my birthday money on a Lampe Berger...
I thought everyone would be excited about this!!
Very cool. I like the wizard Gandalf.
Hi there msdrby! Hope all is well your way!!
