The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Heh...I threw a second ball after the first while playing fetch with Tam. He gave me a dirty look, but got it too...came back with both in his mouth. Wish I coulda gotten a picture!

Well...I'm thinkin' I won't get much more outside stuff done today. I'm grateful the snow held off as long as it did, though! Really comin' down now.

I really CAN finish Monday night if I have to. Just hoped to be done sooner.

Kitty's curled up in her cat tree right now.

Tam's finally resting...laying on the floor at my feet like a dog.

He's a rather strange cat, in case that hasn't yet become apparent...

Picked up some boxes while I was running up to school to do the day's backups... ugh, it would be my weekend to do them when we're going to get snow... not that I have much that needs to be boxed as opposed to just carried but it might make life easier.

I'm just about done boxing and stalling on the cleaning part. It's much more pleasant to FReep, write, or look at fountain pens on-line again.

I'm also gathering phone numbers and such to put in the notebook I'm going to keep with us while driving - for reference. That way it won't be something easily lost, like a scrap of paper.

I'm taking a break from being productive to watch you-know-what... a very weirdly gorgeous SF version of "The Count of Monte Cristo".

ooo!

The original's a favorite of mine...

Maybe this would be the gateway that would suck me into your anime world :)

I like the original too.

It's a really gorgeous anime but weirdly animated. The background art is magnificent, most of the little details are lovely - but the faces are a little flat, and the clothing patterns and hair are just weird. It's a little distracting sometimes.

And I'm only up to episode 3 (21 is broadcast this week and there will be 26 total) so I'm not sure how faithful it is. It's definitely a reimagining, since bits of it are set in space.

Nine days until (officially) Spring.

At the rate we've been going, we may not have full snow melt until mid-May!

So you were able to use the truck and get stuff to the dump? How about the big things you were taking to The House?

Got the main stuff! The heavier snow held off. Someone up there loves me! ;-)

Still have bunches o' boxes, plus some odds and ends - Van-sama's summer tires, which I should probably put on before we go, for instance - but the hardest part will be finishing cleaning.

I'm not sure you should change to the summer tires before you go; especially since you'll be traveling up in the northern tier of the country. You never know when a spring storm will hit and you'd need the traction. Could you lash the summer tires to the roof rack and just cover them with a tarp for the trip?

They're all season tires...should be able to handle a little snow, though they aren't as good as straight winter tires. Putting tires on the roof wouldn't work that well, plus it'd cut down on gas milage...which is one big reason I pretty much scrapped the rooftop cargo carrier idea.

Evening All - was a great day for digging, cleaning and planting. Removed three large Rose-of-Sharons that were causing some visibility problems. Glad I had a digging bar to lever out the roots ball.

Found a dug daylily that managed to overwinter, it deserved to live so split into quarters and planted it where the Rose-of-Sharons were.

Lots of bed cleaning, wonderful temps. THEN the front came through and we lost about 15 degrees bout that quick. Sheesh.

Neighbor rented a chipper and took care of all the branches in their backyard, only been there a couple months, thought they might wait for the natural process to reduce them, but the chipper was the answer for them. They even still have all their body parts.

Just got back from Gypsygirls walk. A family was flying kites in the park, she was fascinated by the kites. Heck she is more interested in birds than rabbits or squirrels. Odd that.

I've been looking around at bulbs comin' up and wantin' to get out in the yard. Too busy and too cold today.

Just got back from helpin' 'em clean up at the concession site. Seems they expected my truck (with one dwarf driver) to be around all weekend.

I helped 'em out tonite, but corrected them on tomorrow.

If they're all season tires, why would you need to change them out at all? Could you just sell the summer tires?
