Puppy survives cliff plunge drama
A Jack Russell puppy survived a 21 metre plunge into the sea and a 1.6km swim to shore in one of the busiest stretches of sea in England.
Six month old Toby landed in the water unhurt, but was then forced to doggy paddle across the Plymouth Sound as he was swept 1.6km away by a strong tide.
His owners alerted police and a boat crew quickly found Toby stranded - but miraculously unharmed - on some rocks.
The soggy doggy was then wrapped in a blanket and returned to the shore.
Trembling Toby was reunited with his delighted owners who had feared the worst after the pup leapt over a wall - and off the cliff - after being frightened by the sound of gunshot from a nearby army barracks.
"We honestly thought we'd lost him," Mr Lee said. "It's a true miracle he's still with us."
He was then taken to a vet for a check up.
..
*BANG* "Yip!" "Iieeeee!" *SPLASH* "Awwww."
LOL!
Good dog.
That is one big six month old JRT.
Janey, thank heavens, has never jumped over a cliff. The was a time, though, when she learned to open windows...
JRK's are insane little dogs.
That looks more like a beagle than a Jack.
This little monster belongs to a friend... ;~D He's playin' with my Gidget... Almost as nutty as little doxies.
It's a little dinky picture... but his ears are more terrier than hound...
I have a 5 year old JRT, and can't keep him out of water...
The trainer for my yellow lab told me that JRK's are generally owned by people who have horses. He had no clue why that was.
Gidget is such a neat looking dog!
You can't throw a rock at a fox hunt or horse show without hitting a JRT or two.
I have heard a couple of explanations for this - one, they are companions for the horses (I doubt that, they are too darn yappy and most horses don't like small, fast moving, noisy objects); two, that horses need grain, grain attracts rats, JRTs keep down the rats. The latter makes more sense to me.
Funny pic of poor Gidget being chewed on! My horse trainer's Jack, appropriately named Nipper, gnaws on my Lab's ears. The Lab is very stoic about it, when she's had enough she just lifts her head up so Nipper has to jump to reach her ears -- and Nipper gets bored and wanders off.
Now that I squint at the pic I can see the upright ears . . .
It might be the rat catcher thing.... or it might just be that artistically, they match the coloration of the foxhounds in a house-dog. Maybe they want the tri color hounds of old oil paintings. But you'd think that would draw them to beagles instead ;~D
Gad! I don't know which is worse: yapping Jacks or baying Beagles.
Beagles are a riot... and half the beagles I've ever met are absolutely nuts. The other half were pleasant to be around ;~D
They taught my Shelley-dog to howl - she didn't know how before. Watching her burble while figuring out how to make that noise was a scream! (She only howls when a train blows for the crossing and she's outside, so it's o.k. really.)
Hmm. Sounds like a Jack Russell / Lemming cross.
;-)
doggie ping please
