*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Frog, we're thinking about doing a cruise. Did you do the 4 day or the 7 day? Did you check out all the liners before deciding Carnivel?
Any other tips you would recommend (like what what to avoid as far as $$ traps)
Did a 7 day this time. We did a 3-day/4-night the first time because we didn't know if we'd like it or not. We did. I think Carnival is the least expensive of the nicer cruiselines, plus it's the biggest. I checked Royal Caribbean and one other, I can't remember which, and Carnival was the cheapest. We wanted to leave out of Canaveral, Mobile or New Orleans, so that's what I used to search with on Carnival's website. It pays to book as far in advance as you can. The prices go up the closer you get to the departure date, just like plane tickets. This was the itinerary we chose...

This one was good too. We may do it the next time...

Looks like you had a good time:)
I just got in from riding, and feeding, it turned in to a very lovely day with the exception of it being a bit windy.
Beth and the POA lady rode by while I was in the arena. The Poa lady was riding one of Beths horses. After I finished in the arena I went out to catch up with them but never did.
I came back and had to catch some of my roosters and put them in a crate. They are killing my hens. Too many roosters for the amount of hens I have. Beth has a friend who might take them, otherwise, will I'm not sure what I'll do with them, but they're not getting loose around here again.
Becky
Fry those suckers up!
Nice:') I want a drivable one though. Some day when I'm stinkin rich I'll ask Winnabago to build me one. My husband and I went to a boat and RV show awhile back. I saw one that was screened on the end. You could walk out to a patio!
I know, I just can't tho.
Becky
That would be cool. Okay, I'll look for one that you can drive :)
Get BigMack to do it. If he hunts at all, I'll bet he'd have no problem with choppin their noggins off and dressing 'em as long as you plucked 'em. You might not even have to do that if you skinned 'em. I always take all the skin off my chickens anyway to cut down on the fat. They'd probably be too tough to fry, but they'd make good stew. I just made a chicken stew last night and it was Mmmmmm, Mmmmmm GOOD! But in any case, you gotta give those poor girls a rest. ;o)
I talk a good game but I don't even eat our chickens eggs. I have a ton of fresh eggs but I give them to the dogs and buy old ones at the grocery store.
Don't ask me, I don't know. Just one of my stoopid idiosyncracies.
Come on now.... GROW!
This is the temp fence I put around the whole front yard, you can see it barely in the pic above. I re-used an old roll of field fence ... Now the dogs HAVE to use the doggie door in the back, they can't get to the front door. I like those little step in posts, we bought them at the feed store sale a month ago.
You dont eat your own chicken eggs? Why ever not? The ones you buy at the store are ancient! : D
As for cruises, Urgh, I know you had a good time but deaconjim would have to knock me over the head with a sledgehammer to get me on a boat or ship. I get sea sick just looking at the sea!
Why dont you take some roosters to the market?
We have never had any problems with ours attacking our hens, they have fought each other, and it got messy, but once a "pecking" order was established, they exist together fine. As for clearing up the yard by eating tics and other pests, they are great!
I got turned off on farm eggs after someone gave me some and half of them had bloody chickens inside.
It just really made me sick to crack two nice eggs in a pan, only to have the third one be a disgusting half-developed chicken.
After that happened to me a few times, I didn't crack open any kind of eggs for awhile.
I Have had that happen years ago, and it put me of too, but if you collect the eggs every day and refrigerate them straight away, its no problem.
What RoS failed to mention is that I'm not inclined to want to take her on a cruise anyway. After 5 years on a submarine, I've had all the cruises I'm interested in taking!
We took one of those 8 hr cruises awhile back. I liked it. We ate good. I'm not much into gambling, or noise so I spent a lot of time on the deck reading. Few clouds were out and the moon shining. It was very relaxing. It was in the summer but I did get a little chilly and was wishing I had brought a comforter though.

HMM. Just one cruise:') We are trying to save up for an Alaska one when we retire though.
But you never ~saw anything~ - these boats have windows :~D
