*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Previous threads:

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!
The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread THREE!

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

"Along what lines on a magnetic map are the lines of force of the earth's magnetic field horizontal in relation to the earth's surface?"
Erm...Longitudinal lines run vertically along the earth's surface. Latitude lines run horizontally along the earth's surface.

I can do that, I think, though I'm not sure quite what you want. Do you want it english to metric? or do you want a dry to wet conversion. I'll give it a shot. Send me the recipe

Nah, I'm not smart. I'm just good at fooling people into thinking that I am. ;-) Heh. But it looks like Hair was really on the ball today. She had things pretty well covered, I think!

Hey wow, Chemistry, physics, and biology! It's a regular science class here at the Saddle club. To break it up and ease our minds, here are some HORSE PICTURES! (Finally!)
These are of my old horse. I'm sorry that they aren't very good. These got a bit washed out when they were scanned. I paint shopped them and this was the best I could do. The second one was really washed out because you couldn't see detail very well, just a horse's head and body.

Do you think you will? Are you in a position to buy her back or would you just like to check on her?

Actually, he's a gelding. :-) I'd love to be in that position, but I'm not right now, but if he was being sold again, I'd definatly tell the owners to contact me because I would buy him back in a heartbeat. Two contradictory statements, but I really, really want him back.

I'll be in that position in a year or so I think.

I think it's good to let them know. Like you, I was keeping track of Bay while he went through two owners... I wasn't ready to buy him until I got the phone call that he was for sale again. Then I scrambled.

I'd imagine that Jimmy (that's his name) has to be in his twenties by now. I'd love to know what happened to him. He's a flashy guy, so I can't imagine that whoever has him would want to part with him. But I'd give it a shot anyway.

Actually.... if he's getting up there... now is the time he might be sold... he could be slowing down and many people will sell them while they still have value. That's exactly why Bay was for sale. I knew whoever bought him now would be the one to retire him and I wanted it done right.

Would be good to find out... he may be in a permanent home, and knowing that would be piece of mind... I don't know what happened to my old Chico, and I regret that.

Thanks, but I figured out the recipe my self. Just took a while.

That is a pretty horse. Bays are my favorite:)

Hope you find him.

Thanks! He's a trotterbred. Part shetland, part standardbred. He stood about 14.2- 14.3 He used to be a harness racer, but he went over the height limit and they retired him from the track. Then he came to that barn, and then when I left, they sold him a month later. Bay horses are my favorite too. :-) Lucked out with that guy! :-) If you look at his mane, it was a lot longer than it is in the pictures. I had shortened it because it was the summer time, but I didn't want to pull it completely, because it was so thick that it would almost stand up. He had the most gorgeous mane and tail. (That was the shetland in him) :-)

"I thought Keith was just pulling my leg."

I'll have little kids pull my finger that gives them a little trumpet sound but I never, ever pull anyone's leg.

Ok, HairDog confirm the existance of Tent Catepillers. I provided useful information on how they can make horses sick. Now its up to you to call the vet and prove that I am right.
