*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

If Adge is eating grain, you can start doing it gradually for short periods. It's often easier for the foal, because he gets more and more independent, and it's not as traumatic. How old is he?

Sharn, I realize that I didn't finish my reply. 4-5 months is a good age. There are two methods of weaning, abrupt and gradual separation. I've seen the gradual method work quite well, though I'm sure that others here will offer advice as well. :-) Just make sure that you have plenty of time to spend with him in the process.

He was born 26th December and has been eating grain and hay for a long time. Thunder was born on 31st January and he also takes grain and hay well. Both foals are quite solid! (Adge is on the left)

I think I would prefer the gradual seperation too, we just need to work it out.

Have you any idea where your horse is now?

I know that he went to a lady who now uses him in harness. I don't have her address, but my old barn knows where they sold him. So I could trace him from there. I really miss him. He was a very special guy to me. Oodles of personality. Fun to ride too.

Well good luck! When you "connect" With a horse or other animal, its hard for others to come up to scratch!
I dont know what it is with Sugar and me, but I just feel so close to her. I would hate to lose her.

He is really tall. Mom is 15.2 hands so that gives you some idea of how big he is.

We wean at 5 or 6mos, depends on the baby. Since you have two, weight until you can wean them both together. And they'll be eating good on their own by then. Then just take both of them away together. Drop the mares feed a bit when you do so that they will dry up.

I couldn't see a scar. I think his shirt collar is covering it up.

Hey, I finally got rid of the pop ups on my 'puter. Actually, I had to enlist the help of hubby because it was getting really bad. I was surfing around looking for information on that horse illness and I got some baaaad stuff installing itself on my computer. Adaware didn't catch it, my husband had to install something else to get rid of all that garbage. I had one browser bug and tons of adware. It's all gone now.

Mornin'.

Is there really such a thing as tent caterpillers? I thought Keith was just pulling my leg.
