*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!

MMMMMMMMM enjoy your lunch! If you have the meatball sub, save some meatballs to throw at Keith when u get back! Maybe he'll choke on one, so that peace and quiet reigns again : D

I have snaps on all my reins too. Actually, I only have two sets of reins, one for trails, one for arena.

I'll have you know that I chew my food slowly so the chances of me choking on a meatball are remote.

However, seeing you wish that harm come to me, I have only one thing to say to you... PPPFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!

Really nice looking guy - wonder why they don't know anything about his background? With those kind of looks, he's not grade.

She did great. I am relatively new to horses, just over two years.

And this is the first horse I have felt comfortable galloping on.

She is a lot of fun.

Good for you:). Having the right horse makes all the difference.

Just finished lunch, I'm heading out to ride now too. Thank goodness it's not cold:)

My computer gets hit with viruses all the time despite my diligence. But I think that it has more to do with the network that I'm on more than anything else. Ever since I've had Zone Alarm, though, I've been virus free since I got it and that was in Jan.

There could be a multitude of reasons why he hasn't any papers...."burned up in a fire"...lol

Seriously, could have been personal problems with family, banned from ApHC who knows. He is cute. Too bad so far away for me. Price is right anyhow. ;')

I love Keith's sense of humor. Even when he insults me, it puts a smile on my face because it's always funny.

It's pretty obvious when they have had a foal nursing. Think National Geographic.

I've suddenly started getting nasty pop-ups. I never visit dirty sites, I swear, so I don't know why I'm getting them. I'll run adaware and it gets rid of them but a few days later they start popping back up. It's gotten to the point that I'm afraid to be on my computer with the kids watching over my shoulder.

If he had papers and they were lost, burnt, etc. they could be replaced. It's more like he was stolen as a baby - who ever bred him would have known sire and dam and at six months (when they purchased him) it couldn't have been too many owners back. I had to go through something similar with the Arabian Horse Association. A man who purchased a mare from me lost all her paper work in a fire. I had copies of everything and just signed a notarized statement for the Association to get a duplicate issued to him.

Finished with Rusty, he did very well with all the new stuff I learned last week.

The different bit....well I put it on him, then took it right back off. I just didn't like the looks of it. Chains as mouth pieces have always worried me, I don't even remember why we have it. I know they can cut the horses tongues, and even tho I'm light handed, he was doing weird stuff with his tongue that I didn't like. I worked him in the usual one and he did great. Probably was more from not being worked regularly enough.

Now I'm of to unsaddle him, and saddle Harley.

Anyone else riding??

Becky

Not hardly. Got standing water here. Is it ever going to stop raining long enough for the land to dry out?

I saw a bit once that was a bicycle chain and it was being used by a so-called professional trainer. I wasn't impressed with her or her choice of bit.

Not riding... doing some busy work :~D

It's raining out here.

I'd be hesitant to use that hard a bit on anyone. If someone is truly 'hard' to all kinds of bits, I'd rather switch to a hackamore for awhile to give the mouth a break than just keep getting harsher. Mechanical hackamores are strong enough for just about anybody. Bay did real well switching to his new kimberwick. With his old eggbutt snaffle in, I'd gotten ~too~ used to having to use a lot of rein and seat on on him when he is on the muscle. Light is much better.
