*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*
Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Yes I do, and Cav was being sarcastic, the smarty pants. Most of my place is standing in water right now, and will be until the dead middle of summer. The soil is mostly clay and it just doesn't drain at all. It would be great if it would grow decent grass in the summer, but all that seems to want to grow there is some kind of yucky looking water grass that nothing will eat. I'm beginning to think that maybe I should switch to raising fish instead of livestock.
If she does come up, be prepared to go on a few trail rides......
I'd love to come up and go trail riding with y'all. I've never been to that part of the country and judging from all your pictures, it's really beautiful. It'd be a long haul though! ;o) I went on a nice ride yesterday out at the horse camp in the Forest. Shirley, my regular riding buddy was down with the flu so I just went by myself, but one of the local saddle clubs that I have ridden with from time to time was having their monthly ride out there so there were some folks there that I knew.
I've never really ridden Blade by himself and I'm beginning to think I should, because he's getting pretty spoiled about not wanting to go first and not wanting to maintain a decent speed when he does. I've been riding him since June of last year, but I think he needs more work on doing what I tell him to do and not what the horse in front of him is doing.
This is one of my all time favorite pictures! Pony is just such a pretty little girl and her lines in this picture are just perfect to me. Thanks for posting it again! :o)
Heh! You have to keep mowing the water grass back and let the shoots of the plants get ate back. Dosen't get rid of it but it helps keep them in check.
If you do go out there it is only a little further drive than Land Between the Lakes was.
Good morning
Becky
I guess everybody's sleeping in late this morning so I'm going to go make some breakfast and see what I can get into. Probably going to go out and work with Grace and Hope on their trailer loading later on. They've not had much practice in getting into a 2horse and I think that's a very valuable skill for them to have. I saw 2 guys trying to load a Spotted Saddle Horse into a 2horse trailer yesterday at the horse camp. They finally ended up locking their arms behind the horses butt and shoving him in there. Been there, done that, swore it'd never happen to me again!
Morning Becky and Frog.
I know we've got to do something about the place. It's gotten totally out of hand. I took Blade out there on my way home yesterday and rode him around a little while. He was sinking up half way to his knees in places. We've got trees blown over all over the the place, some of 'em on the fence, but it's just too wet to get out there with any kind of equipment to get it cleared out. My FIL's been spending most of his time over at my BIL's place working on fence and the bulldozer. Plus, they've got cows over there now. We need to get our last section of old fence replaced before I can put the horses on our place. Maybe we can get someone to do it this summer when it dries out. That, and build a house!
G'Morning Tuffy & Becky. I hope ya'll had a nice Saturday!
It's only 5:30! Horses are having breakfast and I made some coffee... sorry to keep you waiting ;~D
No you're not talking to yourself:)
Just moving slow. Mack and I had a very busy day yesterday. We went out to breakfast, then did some shopping. Then came home and got all dressed up and went to a local casino that is here on Indian land. We hadn't been there yet. We had dinner then sat and listened to a piano player, then came home and watched a very good movie, October Sky. I didn't go to be till 12:30. It was fun day:)
But it is raining here today, and the forecast doesn't look good for the week:(
Becky
I had that feeling...
Glad you got to go on a nice ride yesterday.... It is good to work alone sometimes, it doesn't surprise me that Blade isn't a bold leader at his age...
We are looking forward to her and ecurbh being here:)
Becky
It's just a disaster around here. The kids school is furious at me and trying to take the focus off of the book in question and on to my actions. I feel like crawling in a hole.
I'm sorry. Sounds like you're fighting a loosing battle.
Becky
I am going to stick by my principles and not back down. But I still feel like crawling in a hole.
We had hay delivered yesterday, 87 bales... filled Bay's old stall to the gills and overflowing out. That will hold us for awhile. Only problem is, it's too tall to get up and get a tarp over... I do like to tarp it for dust. Not sure how but I'll tackle that today.
Speaking of dust and hay... bucking hay really wiped ecurbh out... he couldn't breath for an hour afterwards.
I've, we've, actually been up for a couple hours... woke up at 3:30 and ecurbh was also awake watching a movie... restless. We watched most of "As Good As It Gets" and he went back to sleep. And now here I sit. :~\
Just keep putting the monkey back on their back about the book. Unless you get more parents to back you, sounds like nothing will be done:(. That's really sad, but you know it doesn't surprise me. That's our world today.
Becky
Your actions? Sending an email? What are you getting from other parents?
There seem to be alot of people on FR who keep strange hours:)
Becky
Get that dozer running and build a lake first. Use the dirt that you remove from the lake to make a high area. Then build your house so that it overlooks it.
That is what I would do, if I ever got around to getting the dozer running....... : )
