There are two different songs! The performance the one couple goes to see is "The Mikado". The background song during one of the training scenes is from "HMS Pinafore". My family is very fond of that song.
Mastering all of "Modern Major General" is tricky. I have almost all of "Pirates" by heart, but my other G&S is sketchy. They just don't have performances of it.
Morning. Still dead. I've got a midterm in six hours. Ungh.

It's both. He does the "He is an Englishman" song at school.Who does? I'm confused! The same character is in both operettas?
It's in Act II of HMS Pinafore, for sure...I found it.

Name the actress in "Chariots of Fire" and name the other role we'd know her in.Alice Krieg, and she played the Borg Queen in Star Trek: First Contact. I've been a fan of hers for a while. Good actress.

Never mind...I think I got it.
Been awhile since I saw "Chariots of Fire", and I didn't realize that's what you were talkin' about.

The same character is in both operettas? No, see Jen's post above.
Harold Abrahams (Ben Cross) sings the song from "HMS Pinafore" in a performance at Cambridge. He and his friends go to see a production of "The Mikado" where he meets Sybid (Alice Krieg).

Alice Krieg, and she played the Borg Queen in Star Trek: First Contact. Excellent work.
And, checking her film biography, she was also in a film about Natalie Wood. ;-)

Hmmm...
I should get the "Chariots of Fire" soundtrack on CD.
(I've got it on vinyl)

I loved the movie Chariots of Fire, and it's the first time I remember actually rooting for a picture to win an Oscar. Yep, and that was a big year for movies:
The other nominees were Atlantic City, Raiders of the Lost Ark, On Golden Pond, and Reds.

I had no idea there was any connection between dead dillos and leprosy. What's up wit dat?Not just dead ones. Dillas can harbor the bacteria that causes leprosy, so it's generally a good idea not to get too close to one, especially if they might scratch you (they have wicked claws).
G'nad's was obviously not going to do any scratching...
To: 2Jedismom
I'll try to remember to do a search through the archives for "leprosy" when I get home tonight. ;)
To: JenB
Good luck on your midterm today!

Ewww. I'll be avoiding armadillos, then.
Everything I know about armadillos, I learned from Kipling's "Just-So" stories. You'd have thought he'd have mentioned the leprosy bit.
