The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 01/27/2005 9:59:05 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

True on both counts.

The trouble is that although I like new places, I don't like transition...if that makes sense. So I'm NOT going to be truly happy and relaxed until I've been in the new place with a job for a month or so. Once I have a schedule down and a vague idea of my way around, I'll be content. But this next part will be hard.

And now that I've told them at work, there's no going back!

I also had a call from the lawyer's office when I got home today - or rather, they left a message on my answering machine asking me to call. I'm HOPING it's because they're DONE their side of things, but I'm fretting. If the closing gets pushed out...which seemed all but impossible since it's not contingent on financing or anything...well, that'll be a realllllly painful thing.

*fret*

Don't fret. They're likely just calling to start getting all the paperwork set up. It's gonna be SOON!!

*deep breaths*

Yeah, I know! I do hope that's all it is - just needing me to look things over or something.

This month is gonna FLY. I COULD take a bunch of time off...but if I don't, I get paid for it. So I think I'll take as little as possible. ;-) I'm such a miser...heh.

The silliness of SOX knows no boundary. Nothing is too insignificant not to require two-person integrity and change order documentation.

I'm actually thinking about hanging up a shingle and going into the SOX consulting bidness. Its a total racket. I've got the buzzwords down. That's all it takes. Sorta like an MBA.

Why not?

In other news, apparently Glenn Ford (actor*, retired Naval Reerve Captain, WW2 vet) is still alive at 88.

On my mental list of "probably dead by now" until about 3 minutes ago.

*Recently seen on TV as Clark Kent's adoptive dad in Chris Reeves' first Superman movie (1980?)

What time is it? Oh...

Ah yes...but I had to define the terms.

They heard the words, and could even write them down correctly...but "and tree" were the only ones they understood.

That's funny, I didn't remember him being Pa Kent.

Dan O'Herlihy is dead, however.

I dunno why not... except for timing. Gotta strike while the iron is hot. SOX may be yesterday's news any time now, or at least by this time next year. It is a law that is just stupid enough to actually get repealed.

But then again... there may be good money to be made in prolonging the problem until then. :-)

As the Surgeon (Graham Chapman) said in the Operating Theater sketch: "Mr. Notlob, there's nothing wrong with you that an expensive operation can't prolong."

"Mister... Smith...?"

"Yes."

"We've come for your liver."

"I'm still using it."

"Well... we've got your signature here on the organ donor card..."

"Yes, well... "

"We've come for it."

It makes perfect sense because I'm the same way.

I'm not happy until I have a routine established and know what to expect and what's expected of me.

All that aside though, this is gonna be a wonderful exerience and memorable part of your life - so be sure to enjoy all the new stuff you'll be doing and learning along the way to that new routine.

The silliness of SOX knows no boundary.

Worth repeating!

You should go into the SOX compliance business. Maybe you could inject a bit of sanity into the whole mess.
