Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Tomorrow we may come this way...
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Rosie - you're not betraying anyone. This is a job, not a secret society. This is hard, but buckle down, march in there, and do it!
Sigh... says the girl who has been trying to get up her nerve for a week to ask this professor to be her advisor.

This is a mission trip? I think I've mentioned it in passing (but who knows).
Yes it's a missions trip to do construction at a school we support there. Over the years, our church has built practically most of the school.
Trouble is, it takes a total of 15 days and I would need 11 off from work (one hits a holiday).
I can't do it even if I were to skip ShootMoot and allowed for absolutely no contingencies. That doesn't work in the Stormhands' household.
This seems callous (but accurate), we're bound to have somebody die this year.

You don't get compassion leave if someone dies, then?
Shame about the trip. Selfishly, though, I'm glad you don't have to make the choice between that and ShootMoot.

Ah. I figured as much.
Well, perhaps that door is closed. Look for the open window!

If it's immediate family (parent, siblings), I can use sick leave. Or I also have some "family and personal" leave time. But I'd have to use a combination of that and annual leave to make it work.
And, like I said, even that doesn't give me any "wiggle" room.
It was a nice thought while it lasted. There'll be other trips.

Well, perhaps that door is closed. Look for the open window! Yes, but in my case, it usually means I fall through the floor!

If'n you're just itchin' to do some construction...I bet you could construct something at ShootMoot!
I'm with Jen...I'm glad it won't take away from your ShootMoot trip.

Well, I did it. So...whew. Now comes the more difficult part as others will slowly hear the news.
He said he was grateful that I gave "a LOT of time"...which makes me wonder if it was TOO much. But it's really about a month. I guess that's not horribly long.
