Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Tomorrow we may come this way...
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Is that a line from "Return of the King"...regarding Shelob????Nope, Rumpole of the Bailey about his imposing wife, Hilda. (I think I'm remembering her name right). Leo McKern is terrific as Rumpole on the PBS series. The actress who plays his wife is, too.
Sir SuziQ and the kids got me a coffee mug one year for Mother's Day that reads "She who must be obeyed." ;o)

Rumpole of the Bailey about his imposing wife, Hilda. He uses it, yes, but the original source was H. Rider Haggard's African adventure novel, She, published in 1887. The "She" of the title was the "She-who-must-be-obeyed".

I really like his books, though I haven't read that one yet.
Finished King Solomon's Mines not long ago.

Heh, spot on - just back from church and it's just after two.
Now, before I lose my motivation, I need to get to the library.

Heh, I actually haven't read any of his books. But, I read up on his history and bibliography since his character Allan Quatermain appears in the comic book (and movie) The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Allan Quatermain rules.
But I really, really didn't like that movie. It didn't do justice to ANY of the characters, IMO.

I just did my taxes. I owe, but I expected that. And this year it's only seventy dollars, which isn't as much as I thought it might be. Woo-hoo!
I might even get something back on the state taxes. Haven't done those yet.
I'll pay the other after my next paycheck or after the closing. Also need to get plane tickets for Margaret and I. Which means I should either figure out transportation to the airport, of if you really wouldn't mind takin' us (we'd pay gas, if nothing else!) figure out when it would fit in your schedule.

Oh, I can certainly get you guys to the airport. What day are you thinking of flying? I'll tell you my hours then.

I was thinking maybe Thursday the 14th. Was Thursday one of your bad days? I'm trying to remember. If that wouldn't work, we could either get a shuttle or leave a day earlier, on the 13th. That'd likely be fine, too.
And then I'd fly back on...hm...the following Monday, maybe? That'd give me Sunday to hang out with the WA HH crew...
Ya know...the abbreviations don't look so good, do they?

Thursdays are indeed tricky, since I don't get out of class until 5 (and then I have anime club, though I could give that up)
The shuttle is $30 per person, one way - let me drive. How about going on Wednesday? I can get done any time I like Wednesdays.
Monday I technically have a seminar at 4 but that's easy to ditch, I only have to attend 75% of them.
The Popeye's is on the way to the airport, so either going or coming (or both.... mmm) we can get some of that heavenly chicken.

Wednesday it is, then. I'll let Margaret know. The Vermont crew won't be getting there until Thursday, but I'm sure we can find ways to keep occupied...

Excellent. Perhaps you can hang out with the WAHHs (I like the acronym!) Thursday.
When exactly are you planning to arrive? I'm going to have to clean this place up, I guess...

Evenin'.
Just now sitting down to start more office sortin'. We moved some furniture out today. Moved the piece we're selling to the garage. Moved the pump organ to the living room next to the piano. It didn't fit the way I'd planned (translation: the Missus didn't like it that way). But it works.
The boys and I are off tomorrow, so naturally, Luke and I are fighting colds.
Nana came down a bit ago. Said her ears were "stopped up." They ain't stopped up. She's going deaf.
I'm surprised y'all can't hear the television.
