Sorry.
I haven't had a 000 in awhile.
And it's quiet today.
No need to apologize. Nicely spammed.
I was down the hall doing covert strategery...
How about both? ;~D
One person's POT story is another person's DOG story :~D
I was just askin'...
But there is prep work to be done, and they charge less if you do it yourself...Steve uncovered our tank a couple of days ago.
Not ~sometimes~. You need to have it pumped every 5-6 years or so.
It took these guys about a minute and a half to find our tank and about 5 minutes to dig it out.
They pumped part of the tank and had to go empty his truck. He's coming back to finish. He thinks the drain field has failed.
Yeah, it didn't take Steve very long either...but he said it saved us money. I don't know how much though.
"He thinks the drain field has failed"
Yikes...that's my biggest fear. We'll probably just hook on to the city, but it's gonna cost an ever-lovin' fortune...
Well, there you go...hopefully no harm is done, it's been about 5 years since we moved here and it seems they got it done right before we moved in...
You should be fine. The pumping out ~should~ have been part of your closing/selling agreement.
Steve and I are looking at rigging something up that pumps our clothes wash water right out into the front yard to water the yard. We'd just use enviro-friendly soap and water our lawn at the same time! We hate the idea of all that laundry water going right into our septic.
Our tank here is enormous... 12 feet long and almost that deep. We could use it as a bomb shelter if it didn't smell so bad in there. I wished I'd have taken pics while he still had the lids off, but it didn't seem appropriate. ;~D
It's out in the untamed back forty. If they do need to dig a new drain field, the good news is there is lots of land here. It would be more of a disaster at the beach house, where space is limited and it takes the approval of every greener at the Depts of Ecology, Shorelines, Fish and Wildlife and the Dept of Approvals Dept.
Ecologically/Politically, I like septics over city sewer systems.
That sounds like a great idea, if you can find soap that doesn't kill the lawn!
Yay, I finished the homework assignment of doom!
You won't have to pay for it, either...will you? Landlord will?
Right...
I worry about stuff like this, because I fear expensive problems might inspire them to just sell the place rather than do a lot of repairs.
Right now we're dumping it into a big trashcan and it fills that trashcan UP twice, once with wash water, once with rinse water. On the small cycle! Between, Steve hauls it out with a bucket into the yard. Just to ease the load on the septic for right now.
But really, that is a massive amount of water for just slightly soiled clothes that can be used for other purposes...
I know...I would too. It's kinda like "Out of sight, out of mind" most the time and they just cash the rent checks. Then this makes them remember they gotta take care of it sometime and is it worth it to them?
I know, because it happened to us...when Matthew was a baby, the landlord decided that instead of fixin' the house, he'd just sell it. It was a pain. We moved into a duplex and that's where we were living when Joshua was born. It was all right...just smaller than we were used to.
