The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 01/27/2005 9:59:05 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Shoot, strangle and burn, that's my method... But that's a really frightening graphic.

"Be afraid" is right. This is a scary language and I've only got the basics. It's going to take me a while to readjust my thinking.

Those seven Cuda CQB3s that Michelle-from-Camillus promised arrived yesterday. I got around to unpacking them today, prior to taking out for engraving. I was surprised to find that four of them had black handles, while the other three had the dark green of the rest of them. I guess we have two variants out there. A pleasant surprise.

Another surprise happened when I came in to work tonight (I now switch to a Tuesday through Saturday midnight shift). The first trouble call I closed was number 400000. A quintuple precious!! And it happened at 11:11 PM.

Off to a good start tonight.

A quintuple precious and honestly earned, too, I'd guess, unless you spammed the person with complaint number 399999 with "Just reboot it, it'll be fine".

Good evening! Watching early election coverage from Iraq this evening...

Well, it's a camera on an empty room right now, so far the turnout is sparse... but the room's not on fire, so that's good.

It was my first call of the night, and I had no idea what the number would be. I know last night I finished at about 399850, and figured someone during the day would get the magic number. So 400000 popped up on my first call, and it felt like the hit the jackpot on the slot machine.

When I was working in the Tacoma housing projects, I had a client family that was Kurdish... In fact, I had written that he was Iraqi on a form, and noticed later he had crossed it out and written "Kurd".

He had escaped through Turkey during the aftermath of Gulf War 1... when Saddam was wreaking havoc on the Northern Kurds. He had been an electrician as a trade, and was trying to take classes that would allow him to be qualified to work as an electrician here. He very much wanted eventual US citizenship then... but he had family and still cared what was happening in Iraq. I've been wondering if he'd be the type to want to go back now and help... and wondered how he's done here and whether he would participate in the vote.

There were several pictures of Kurds voting. One group of men was dressed in very colorful 'native costumes'.
