The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 01/27/2005 9:59:05 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Victoria's Secret
Well their stuff's real nice
Oh but I can buy the same damn thing on a Wal*Mart shelf half price
And still look sexy
Just as sexy
As those models on TV
No I don't need no designer tag to make my man want me
You might think I'm trashy
A little too hard core
But in my neck of the woods
I'm just the girl next door

Well, I don't have anyone else to guilt trip about Valentine's Day... rather stupid holiday anyway. Darn Hallmark for setting unrealistic standards!

Our eccentric neighbor has been stockpiling silver coins for decades. He believes the whole banking system will go bust in the not-too-distant future and the government will cease to exist, and figures precious metals will be the only useful currency.

If things got that bad, I figure brass casings and jacketed lead would be even more valuable.

Well...I wouldn't put it past him to have those stockpiled, too.

Well...I wouldn't put it past him to have those stockpiled, too.

You know, for a while we had a family of baby sitters (3 sisters, not all at the same time) for Jr (this is about 10-12 years ago) until we found out about the dad's stockpile. He had his own little compound. And this wasn't just an collection. This was an arsenal. Wife found out about it on a women's retreat, when his wife finally confessed after 20 years about how controlling and abusive he was to her. The guy was wound a bit too tight. Needless to say, after that we had the girls come to our house.

Then there was the husband of the woman who accompanied us when we sang. We went to their house to practice one night and spent a considerable amount of time "admiring" his extensive collection of Nazi memorabilia.

[yeah Jen, this was the PCA church. ;-) ]

Yeah, like I'm believing that. Presbyterians can't sing...

Ouch, what was in the water there?

Well, to be fair to the church, neither of these husbands came with their wives.

I received your forwarded email about a freeper that wants to make a contribution. Is this someone else?

Just got the missing sheaths from Camillus. Once I get the blades engraved, we can rock-n-roll with the BK2s and BK3s.

We're quickly turning into Infantry'r'Us.

Well at the risk of being overly helpful I will explain that one. In the English system pounds are used to represent mass and force but. Hence something rated to hold up under a certain weight can be specified by the mass it holds up of the force that mass requires to be held up under earth normal gravity. TO be accurate when doing math problems involving such things you have to note that you are talking about pounds-mass or pounds-force. To solve that issue they also added 'slugs' as another way to talk about mass without using pounds. In the metric system kilograms only really means mass and does not specify the amount of force except by assumption. You can naturally assume that something rated for 5kg really means it can hold up under 5kN of force since we all live on Earth (most of the time).

As you might imagine this whole area is a source of hughe confusion amount engineering students and often leads them to develop a snobbery for the metric system. Anytime you meet such a metric snob simply inform them that anyone with real brains can handle either system equally and they shuts them up fast. Let me tell you though, if you get those all mixed up in a calculation it is a world of annoyance to sort out.

Heh...my littlest sis is convinced I'm going "get a guy" in Colorado. That's her term, and no matter how often I hear it, she still cracks me up.

Seriesly, at this point it's not really something I'm thinking about. I just want to go somewhere different! And if it happens, it happens.
