Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Tomorrow we may come this way...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I adore baking.
I don't think I can stand up that long for now though. I am calling the doctor in the morning if I don't feel better by then. I can't remember my doctor's name, plus she was getting married the last time I went to see her. (I may need to find a new doctor.)

Steve didn't like me using the bread machine at first...cause that's not how his mom did it. She makes HUGH batches of bread at time and freezes it. Anyway, he used to sniff and look all snooty when I would get the machine out, so I rarely did.
Then one day I stumbled on to this really easy recipe and started baking it all the time.
Then I quit for a while...Steve says "Why don't you bake any more of that bread!?" So I started up again, but not fast enough for him 'cause he asked me to write down the recipe so he could make it himself! LOL
So now the bread machine has this easy recipe taped right on the side of it!

You know I love the guy, but he's a trip to try to navigate sometimes!
My bread machine has a "quickie loaf" function too...which was out of the question with Steve, till he got used to the idea of the bread machine in the whole first place. Once we leaped that hurdle, the quickie loaf came much easier.

Ah, baking... I wish I weren't on atkins, cooking's just not as satisfying. That's one good thing about having bothers around...I can just have a slice or so and pass the rest off to them.
I need to convince a few to relocate, I guess. Heh...

Ok...here is my recipe. I did the milk measuring by eye, so I had to figure out that measurement...here it is...
Makes a 1.5lb loaf.
Put 2 tablespoons of oil and just under 300ml of warm milk in the bread pan.
Mix in a bowl:
16oz (weighed) all-purpose flour (about 3 cups)
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tsp salt
Spoon it onto the top of the oil/milk then make a pit and add your yeast. I use a slightly rounded teaspoon of instant yeast. I guess a packet of yeast would do...

Yep.
Or brownies.
Mmmm...brownies.
I'll have to acquire some people to cook for, I guess. I mean really...I could always bring things in to work here if I didn't have bothers.

you know, that is very similar to my challah recipe. except in that I use 1/3 c. honey instead of sugar.
