The Hobbit Hole XIX - Tomorrow we may come this way...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 01/27/2005 9:59:05 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Tomorrow we may come this way...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Heh...about all I have are musicals and kid movies.

I DO have "Emperor's New Groove", though.

And "The Importance of Being Earnest".

And Star Wars.

And I'll make you watch "Strictly Ballroom" if you've never seen it...

Same goes for "The Efficiency Expert".

Well, see you later... our cable TV 'on demand' became active today... it's supposed to have been working for the last few weeks, but it took our cable tech being here to figure it out ;~D

There's a lot of shows on demand, easier than watching the schedule for them.... it's the wave of the future!

It's pretty cool. HBO is free this month, so we're gonna go check it out.

Hmm... we should reach 500,000 posts during thread 51... that would be about 3 years and 3 months from now.

thanks, think I will. It's gotta be from all this crazy weather we Texans call "winter."

This is a rundown of the typical/average week during winter down here.

Monday - rain 34 degrees
Tuesday - sunshine and 65
wednesday - hard freeze with a chance of flurries.
Thursday - clear and high of 48
Friday - rain with high of 65
Saturday - partly cloudy clearing up after noon high 45
Sunday - rain and high 48.

Our 'on demand' is free with digital cable... some of the movies are pay per view, but the regular kind of TV, and non-premium movies are no extra charge... HBO won't always be free.

I miss Texas weather.

So...a tale I have to tell...

In 1989 I had a piece of* old 1973 Bonneville I'd bought for $200 on arriving at Fort Bragg. It was satisfactory in that it motorvated from A to B with regularity and reliability. however, it suffered many of the ills of a car of its class, age, and used-ness.

One day, a local big-name dealer put an ad in the paper with a $300-off coupon** for a $99/mo deal on a 1987 Renault Alliance. I went for it, and of the five or six available selected a silver one with grey interior.

It was the best car I had had up until that time, beat the Bonneville all to bits, was loads of fun to drive, weathered being smacked in the front end by an idiot who wasn't watching where she*** was going, and routinely got 35 MPG in my combination of city and highway driving. I was sorry to give it up when I came down on orders for Germany in '92, and I find that my current car (10 years newer, Pontiac) is almost, but not quite as good as that little Renault was.

Yesterday, I saw this. I want it so bad...

*This is meant to be read straight through, "...piece of old..."; however, everyone should know there is a Naughty Word missing.

**I have worke in the automotive retail industry for five years now, and m fully aware of the degree of nonsense involved with this ad and "coupon".

***Not that it matters.

Hi msdrby!! Almost missed your post! Homeschool doing well, although I decided to take a break today and try and catch up with where I have been going [if that makes any sense].

I dont think I like the Seton program. Especially for starting out in the middle of the year. My one consolation is that I don't have to turn anything in if I dont want to. But this curriculum is almost top-heavy with the religion aspect and barebones in other subjects. Im so busy just trying to get through the curriculum as it stands, that I am almost afraid to pull in supplemental work because I dont want to overload and confuse the poor girl.

Still, its working out well! I think Erin prefers it to the other, now...except for the fact that she has not had play time with her homeschool friend much because her friend has been down with a virus. And the weather has been NASTY, too nasty to get out and about for a walk even.

I hate texas winter.

I'm bummed, we have digital cable but they charge an extra amount, I think $3.95/month for the "on demand" channels. And I think that's per channel, which would add up quickly!

She did 'folkie' type stuff back in the late 60's and early 70's. She then got into more of a jazz type music. She wrote "Both Sides Now" which Judy Collins (another folkie type) made popular. I think she is also the person Graham Nash (Of Crosby Still and Nash) was singing about in "Our House";

Our house is a very, very, very fine house,
with two cats in the yard,
life used to be so hard,
now everything is easy cause of you."

They didn't last.

I found out a few years ago that she had given up a baby for adoption during that folkie time, when she hadn't yet made it big. She and the child were reunited a few years ago, which I think is kinda cool.

We saw her in concert in NJ at the Garden State Arts Center, and enjoyed it very much.

Rosie might have some of her music.

Older Hobbits would know

Heh. Boy do I feel old realizing that it's over 30 years now that I've known that music! I was even listening to the Beatles this morning; now that's almost ancient by today's standards! ;o)

Joni did write "Both Sides Now": "I've looked at clouds from Both Sides Now". "Send in the Clowns" was recorded and made popular by Judy Collins, but I think it was written by Stephen Sondheim.
