Pain just from the incision areas? - If they aren't infected at all, I bet you don't need to give anything for pain. There are a lot of real mixed messages on Pet Vet sites about using either Tylenol (reported Liver damage if given daily) or aspirin (ucler and stomach upset)
Character especially here ;~D
Thanks Osage.
It's hard for me to believe he's 11 already. I've been so distracted since having to put Dino down 2 years ago, what with getting the new job and raising the girls that I feel guilty on missing out on some of his finer years.
He's still my puppy in my mind.
His mortality just came home to roost this weekend. Just can't picture him NOT around, ya know?
My neighbor gave me a homemade bow and some arrows last night that he bought from an Indian in Costa Rica, where he used to work some years ago. His wife won't let him hang it on the wall, so I got it. It's made from a piece cut out of some type of palm tree, I don't think he knew that, but when I got it in the sunlight today I could see the palm type vascular system in it. It's very slightly reflexed. Arrows are hardwood tips about 12" long, with barbs, and attached to some kind of cylindrical cane.
A cool looking device, actually.
He figures it was made mainly to sell to tourists for an inexpensive wall decoration, and probably was - nevertheless the thing shoots, I found out today, and the arrows fly well. I imagine one could get smaller fishes with it (once nocks were put on the arrows, which they don't have).
Yeah, I know it.
He took aspirin therapy for a while to ease his hip pain and inflammation from the dysplasia, but it did upset his stomach after about a week. So we stopped giving it to him.
The areas don't look infected, just red and angry looking. And I have to clean them with peroxide-soaked gauze so it must sting.
*sigh* I figure it's prolly better not to give him anything, but I feel so sad for him. He really is a pathetic sight!
Glad that you and the kids are doing well - hope that the oldest puppy will be fine too. All my dogs are fine for the moment, as is the rest of the family:-)
I don't watch South Park either. ;-)
I wouldn't think it should look angry looking... it should look dry by now. I'd try some topical antibiotics... furizone doesn't sting... Iodine even...
Worst risk is if he's licking at the butt one. He'll bother it to the point of not healing, and you may want to consider the dreaded collar.
I don't know that Tylenol would have enough effect to be worth the liver risk. I've always been told to avoid Tylenol in dogs and cats.
Glad to hear it! Still got that arrow stuck in the tree? ;-)
He's not licking it which is a big relief. He chews his right paw when he gets agitated, so I was worried he'd been chewing the stitches off of his rear. Fortunately, it looks like I won't need to get the E-collar.
The incisions are dry, but I guess his skin is so pink back there maybe it just ~looks~ angry. The flesh isn't hot to the touch, so I'm not concerned with infection. *fingers crossed*
I won't bother with the Tylenol anymore since it isn't worth the risk. His blood work came back perfect and I'd like to keep it that way. *smile*
I know, I just wanted to pick something that would never happen as an example ;-)
Yeah, I can't get the d@## thing loose! Oh well, maybe it will be a warning to something that walks around back there.
hehehe....
I'd consider myself warned if I saw it!
If he's not licking it... I bet it doesn't hurt. If it did, he'd be bothering it.
You're more than likely right. He's a really big whiner anyway, so I shouldn't chalk it up to the surgery.
He's trolling for extra Snausages I bet! *laughing*
Well sis, I finally finished folding and putting away the last load of laundry so I'm heading for bed.
See ya tomorrow and thanks for the advice. (((Hair)))
Good night everyone! *waves*
~Waves goodnight~
Good night Ruthy.
Heading for bed also, soon as I check out the UFO thread.
~snif~
nite folks
Oh my! That must have been just glorious! I wonder if just that is available anywhere online.
