In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs as always. Subbie is also here for THREE days. So you better be nice, otherwise you get coal on your face. Im just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words as if can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.
This word is pronounced tuk er
Etymology: I dont know.
Verb:
1) Exhaust, fatigue.
I know what naughty words rhyme with this one, so be careful!
The store was empty when hubby went in, but of course it was only about 2 in the afternoon........no way would I want to go near it today. Like you, I've got more than enough food to last a week.......and last weekend I did pick up a bunch of frivolous stuff....like popcorn and icecream.
Hubby is picking up some kerosene, cause his concern is the winds and freezing rain they are calling for and the possibility of power going out....that means the only heat we would have would be the wood stove.
But I'm not getting wound up about it. We plan on doing exactly as we had planned later this afternoon regardless of the weather.
But there was no storm looming.
xsbrownie can make cupcakes if they want frivolous! i have all the stuff you need for baking, just no junkfood type stuff.
LOL!!!!!!!!
I can do that too....provided we don't lose power....my oven is electric.
Jax just came running into the dining room to me........Mommy it's snowing......sure enough it has started. so we shall see what happens.
i see it now looks like some fine snow, instead of the sleet or whatever we had coming earlier. there is still nothing on the grass at this point. i am counting on the power not going out here, normally snow storms don't do that. usually it happens for NO GOOD REASON on a nice day without a cloud in the sky!
pssst....you can bake on a wood stove...I have done it....
It's a fine snow here, but because it has been so cold for so many days.........the roads are cold and already my road has a coating on it.
Usually my phones go out rather than my power.........but that is during rain. But like you when it does go out, it's usually on nice days for NO GOOD REASON!!!
I know about cooking on the wood stove..........but I wouldn't know the first thing about baking on top of it.
I have stew and chili in the freezer that I can easily heat on the woodstove if it were to come to that. ANd I picked up real popping corn.....not the microwave stuff that passes for popcorn and is only edible with added salt and butter.
i had a bag of real popcorn, but included it in the boxes of stuff i sent to the troops, figuring they wouldn't be able to do microwavable stuff. my kids and their father go through popcorn like nobody's business. that is one thing i wish i had gotten.
Bread. Flip a cast-iron cookpot over, and put it on top.
a bread like banana bread or a yeast bread?
yeast - and yes, I burned it. LOL.
I don't think I will make any attempt at baking on the woodstove, it's not one of my strong points anyway!!!
But anything that can be done in a frying pan or sauce pan (preferably cast iron) I imagine will only take a little bit longer than on to[p of the range.
And there is always the gas grill!
so yes, one could say it can be done, just not...edibly... you are a good SURVIVALIST cook, i am sure : ) i bet a banana bread or other quick bread would have worked fine that way. yeast bread is a bit more complicated in any event. good try.
Hi, Gabz!
I hope you had a fantastic time at the W2 Ball. I'd planned to go, but an exercise came up and torpedoed my plans.
Check post #99 for a giggle.
PS: Spoon bread on a camp fire or grill in cast iron skillet is both simple and delicious.
Jack.
I had to dump hot water on it to get it moving.
About 8 inches of snow here. Still going too. @#!^ it.
Yeah, Dan, but at least in MI you expect it...LOL
it is a legit snowstorm now. the girls and i went out to get coffee at the DD and to the CVS for the candy and gum they were pestering me for. The DD parking lot was full.
Oh, well, if the DD was full, it MUST be a blizzard...
