URGENT: 'TARGET #1': al-Zarqawi reportedly arrested in Iraq
The Drudge Report ^ | 1/4/2005 | Matt Durdge

Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi, whom the US occupation authorities declared to be the "target number one" in Iraq, has been arrested in the city of Baakuba, the Emirate newspaper al-Bayane reported on Tuesday referring to Kurdish sources. Al-Zarqawi, leader of the terrorist group Al-Tawhid Wa'al-Jihad, was recently appointed the director of the Al-Qaeda organisation in Iraq.

The newspaper's correspondent in Baghdad points out that a report on the seizure of the terrorist, on whom the US put a bounty of 10 million dollars, was also reported by Iraqi Kurdistan radio, which at one time had been the first to announce the arrest of Saddam Hussein.

There have been no official reports about the arrest of the terrorist. Al-Zarqawi, 38, a Jordanian, whose real name is Ahmad al-Khalayleh, aims to turn Iraq into a "new Afghanistan". According to Arab press data, Al-Tawhid Wa'al-Jihad group has divided Iraq into several emirates. The group's independent subdivisions at a strength of 50 to 500 militants operate in the cities of Al-Falluja, Al-Qaim, Diala, and Samarra.

The personnel of the group is on the whole 1,500-strong and includes Iraqis and citizens of Arab and Islamic countries. There are demolition experts and missilemen among them.

The group has depots of weapons and explosives in various parts of the country. It intends to frustrate the upcoming parliamentary elections that are scheduled for the end of this month. Al-Tawhid Wa'al-Jihad threatens to do away with Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi and members of the interim government

Hannity and Colmes has jumped the shark. I won't tune them in even if the have Laura Ingraham as a naked guest (well maybe then).

Chop, mix with mayo, chopped celery, walnuts, and pickle relish. Season to taste and make delicious sandwiches. ;-)

Mix some sour cream, mayo, and cream of chicken soup...add a 1/4 teaspoon of celery powder. Lay out broccoli on casserole dish, put turkey next, cover with your mix. Sprinkle shredded sharp cheddar cheese on top, and then crushed cornflakes. Put a little melted butter over it all, then bake at 350 for 45 min. Good stuff. Almost forgot the salt and pepper in the first mix.

Why do they keep letting him go? He's been captured 87 times in two weeks.

As the old song says,

Wishin' and hopin'
And thinkin' and prayin'
Plannin' and dreamin'
Each night of his charms
That won't get him into your arms....

Sure:

2 lbs white and dark turkey meat, cut up and cooked.
1 medium union, chopped fine
1/2 bell pepper chopped fine
4 slices bacon, fried
1 cup chopped carrots
1 cup frozen peas
1 cup sliced ordinary grocery store mushrooms
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup half and half, or milk
2 cups flavored croutons, crushed (or use leftover dressing)
salt, pepper, poultry seasoning to taste

Dump in a bowl, mix up everything except bacon and croutons.
Pour mixture into casserole pan. Top with crushed croutons or stuffing. Arrange bacon strips on top.

Put in oven until done, about 40-45 mins at 350F,

I usually just make sandwiches with the left over turkey. Turkey A'la King is good too though.

Drudge is a bit late on this one - or maybe he is getting more cautious. A number of sources had this yesterday. Those sources are very much outside the mainstream and rightly subject to other confirmation. But, what is Drudge relying on?

I guess now that Drudge has it, the explosion of stories in the MSM that everyone was anticipating in yesterday's threads on this story will now hit.

Count down till this gets pulled as a duplicate... 10..9...8...7...

I think on this one it would not be right to pull it. It is not really a duplicate. It is another story from another source about the same story. It is not a posting of the same story.

We have to be careful in our zeal about duplicate posts that we don't limit posting to the event only. On FR, looking at the source(s) of news is as important as the story itself, is it not?

This is Drudge coming online with this story. That is a significant developement. And not one I would want buried in a 1000 post thread on a story many have been following the last couple of days, especially where much of the discussion has been on the different sources reporting this story.
