There was an e-mail from my friends last night. All three in the family are safe. They had decided at the last minute to change their itinerary and NOT go to Phuket that day. Wow! Incredible luck.

PCness gone nuts:

Multi-Culti Crappers

A university in New Zealand is installing a number of in-the-floor squat toilets in order to be more sensitive to the needs of its international students, reports the New Zealand Herald.

The university claims it has had trouble with confused international students standing on the regular toilet seats and creating “hygiene problems.” One student even reported finding stiletto marks on one seat.

If these students cannot master a dumpster, what the hell are they doing in university?

"After all that hustle and bustle, it's soooooooo quiet in our little cowtown."

You would think you were in a tomb here then, if you think Tucson is a cowtown. It IS Tucson, right?

One of my old bosses was known as the Phantom Sh!tter at his University. (Because you didn't see his legs under the stall door).

They even had a cartoon in the paper about him.

His company just went public, and he's doing QUITE well, thank you...

It was just funny last night to have come from SFO and then LAX where there is always activity, and arrive here. We must have been the last flight of the evening - should have arrived at 10:45 pm but it was about 12:45 am. The entire airport was shut down other than the 50 people who were with us on the flight. Even the last cop told us good night and went home. Tucson has almost one million people plus all the suburbs, but it's still provincial.

Well, I survived the staffing. Good Lord, that mother is stump stupid! Her dearly beloved pedophile husband sat right their next to her saying he didn't understand why he should go to a program for sex offenders. I asked her if she was aware that he had been founded on at least 2 other times for sex with a child. She said, "no" ...no emotion, mind you, then proceeds to defend him saying that those cases were found untrue, obviously not realizing that the only reason I HAD that information was because I had contacted the investigators in the states involved as a result of information obtained because he was on the central registry of those states. I flat told her that as long as he was in the home and had access to the children, the children wouldn't be going home. After that point, he kept his mouth shut, but she's still calling him "baby." I wanted to barf.

I don't think it is love. Its just that once folks have sunk so low, they can't find anyone else to share their lives with, except other gutter dwellers.

Actually, I don't think love has a heck of a lot to do with it. This woman is a real piece of work and she ain't got a lick o' sense.

Good for the phantom.

He'll save a fortune in fixtures when he builds his new home.

There's quite a bit of the "just stamp some footprints in the cement" and hope the aim is good stuff going on in Europe also...one I declined to utilize in a Monaco shopping mall also was uni-sex with no partitioning.

These are the teacher's assistants, tutors, and graduate researchers for the school. They come with full-ride scholarships to study and get advanced degrees in the engineering school which has set-aside slots for these people.

Never mind that they squat and don't get hemorrhoids. They will design the user-interfaces on the computer products and write the user manuals shipped with them for future products you will purchase.

When the on-line phone help begins by asking you to press 2 for Swahili, 3 for Maori, and 4 for Hmong, you will know the people who setup the rest of the system. Time to get busy and welcome them with open arms. They need your time, money and patience.

You know, these days, I am running way low on those most valuable commodities and do my best to spend them all on my family and friends.

Cheers.

Well, well, well, the little UN worm is now trying to slither out of his very stoooooopid statement.
"UN Official Backs Down: Rich Nations Not 'Stingy'
Reuters, 12/28/04, Irwin Arieff

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The international response to a catastrophic tsunami in Asia has been quick and generous, a senior U.N. official said on Tuesday, playing down his earlier comments that wealthy nations were stingy.

U.N. Emergency Relief Coordinator Jan Egeland rowed back from statements he made on Monday after an annoyed Secretary of State Colin Powell said Washington was "the greatest contributor to international relief efforts in the world."

"The United States is not stingy," Powell told CNN's "American Morning" program.

Egeland, a Norwegian, pleaded at a Monday news conference for individuals and governments around the world to respond generously to the humanitarian disaster created by the tsunami that struck a broad swath of southern Asia on Sunday.

Asked about the response of rich nations to such crises, he said: "It is beyond me why are we so stingy, really."

"If actually the foreign assistance of many countries now is 0.1 or 0.2 percent of their gross national income, I think that is stingy really. I don't think that is very generous," he said.

The United Nations urged rich nations a quarter of a century ago to give away 0.7 percent of their gross domestic product every year in the form of development aid.

To date, however, just a handful of European nations, most of them in Scandinavia, actually meet that goal.

The United States, the world's largest economy, contributes about 0.13 a year of its GDP to development aid. But that figure excludes aid to Iraq and Afghanistan as well as food aid, where the United States is the world's largest donor.

"We are busting our butts to help and comments like that don't reflect what we are doing," said a State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Egeland told reporters on Tuesday: "I've been misinterpreted when I yesterday said that I believed that rich countries in general can be more generous."

"It has nothing to do with any particular country or the response to this emergency. We are in early days and the response has so far been overwhelmingly positive," he said.

"The international assistance that has come and been pledged from the United States, from Europe and from countries in the region has also been very generous," Egeland added.

Countries have contributed or pledged tens of millions of dollars in the first few days after the disaster.

The United States provided an initial $15 million mostly channeled through the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, plus logistical support for aid efforts. On Tuesday, the U.S. Agency for International Development added $20 million for the earthquake relief, a White House spokesman said."
