I think the most common drives I've seen students using are Memorex and Lexar. If that helps. Also Kingston.
Amazon had a Lexar drive on sale. But maybe I should check around at the stores.
Ordered one fer Mrs. Stormhands yet?
What size are you planning on getting?
My mama didn't raise no fool...
I R ignorant. I dunno.
I like Lexar. Mine's a 128mb, which is just about big enough for almost anything, but if you look for a sale you can get 256 pretty cheaply. Take into consideration the design - mine is squat and rounded, making it comfortable to slip into a pocket.
PS - they can go into the washing machine but the dryer is bad medicine.
Meant to ping you to #7017 as well, Rosie.
Yes, our winter in Miami isn't exactly like upstate New York or Vermont...I've got a fire laid in the fireplace, but so far it hasn't gotten cold enough to light it.
Rosie, the book "Winter's Tale" had great poetic descriptions of winter in the NE, but I think you didn't like that book, after all...Helprin is not for everyone, for sure.
ROFL
That's some dress. Fer a stripper.
I don't know that I didn't like it...but I couldn't quite grasp it. I LOVE his descriptions, though. So vivid. One of these days I want to track down Refiner's Fire - it isn't in the college library system.
I did have a little trouble with some of the morality in the books, but I'm a bit puritanical in some ways, I know. ;-)
Did you notice how blue the snow is in that picture...you can really see it against the white background of the page. It's shocking.
No, but the drives survive. I have done a scientific survey of my friends and colleagues, and it's true.
Mind, the time mine got washed wasn't my fault... my mother on three seperate occasions has run those guys through the machine. She has the habit of picking jeans up off people's floor and washing them and we all have a habit of leaving things in pockets ;-)
I'm not sure I can *grasp* that book either, Rosie. I first read it in 1983, when it came out, Mom had given copies to me and my brothers for Christmas that year.
After I finished it, I was wondering what the heck it was really about...ever since, I've been getting other people to read it so I can see if maybe they understand and then let me know ;-)
Just kidding (partly), I've decided it probably doesn't matter, I just enjoy it now on whatever level I can get from the thing. Over the years I've read various interpretations of the meaning, but quite honestly I've forgotten them...not even sure the author knows what it's about. Jeanne, who was an RN in a psychiatric hospital for awhile, thinks, after reading it, that Helprin might be psychotic! I doubt that, but I'm pretty convinced he lives on a slightly different plane than the rest of us.
I thought the love story between Beverly and Peter Lake was a beautiful thing and unbelievably poignant. And of course, I loved the descriptions of winter.
My son liked the book too...he always hated Manhattan, but after reading "Winter's Tale," saw the city with different eyes, he actively enjoys NYC now.
Didn't you like that kid, Cecil Mature?
Yeah, I did like Cecil. And the leader of the criminal gang...Pearly?
Mostly I was impressed with Helprin's ability to paint with words, as cliched as it is to say that. The white horse...the frozen lakes...the colors of the snow and the light and everything - wonderful writing.
Mmm, I always liked "A Wrinkle in Time" best. Calvin and Meg were a little more fun view-pointish characters than Charles Wallace.
Swiftly Tilting Planet was my favorite back when...mostly because I thought the Welsh stuff fascinating.
A Wrinkle in Time...I think I just read too many times at one point. Now it's been awhile and I'd probably enjoy it again. Maybe I'll read the series backwards. ;-)
