Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Though we pass them by today...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

The cool part was he was just another guy. He didn't make a big deal about being there and didn't try to steal the spotlight at all. He just talked quietly with folks.
When I first saw him, I said to Big'ol, "That guy is trying to sport a Chuck Norris vibe or something." We chuckled because we didn't think it was really him. What a wannabe we thought.
Then when a nice gentleman cornered us and was reminiscing about the ol' days in the Army. I had a chance to smile and nod and look around. And sure enough the nametag on the Norris wanna be guy said Chuck Norris. The poor gentleman who was talking to us must think I'm a complete dingbat because I didn't hear a word he said when he started directly to me. He's waving his hand in my face saying, "Hello??" when I'm thinking, "Omigoodness! That's Chuck Norris over there!"
Terribly impolite and non-GRITS-like. :(
But at least we didn't go over and pester the him. He looked like he was enjoying not being fawned over. I'll just be smug about being nonchalant around a celeb. ;)

I'm assuming a guest, but hey. Lots of 'famous' folks frequent FR and most of us are none the wiser.

Dunno, but I got a picture! :)
He really was a nice fella. Very normal. Not a pajama-clad lunatic like the media made him out to be.

Lotsa dancing on the dance floor. Some folks got drunk - tho most were just chatty-drunk types. One group of youngsters got really sloshed and I was really annoyed with them. One of the girls (who had on a typical dress that had a scant bodice) went over and started pawing on the Iraqis. It was very disrespectful given their religion. She was trying to say how much she admired them but given her inebriation lets just say she was not the best ambassador.
Oh and there were several Marines in attendance. Let me just say that the Marine dress uniform is a work of art. I love my husband and I love the Army, but the Marines just have the best looking uniform.

That will depend on how the weekend goes. If the dump run is made and the office painted...and if I get the rest of the house in some semblence of order...it could be very soon - even early next week. Otherwise, might not be until after next weekend. Soon, though, in either case, really! In the scheme of things, that is.

Cool stuff winmag. You're like our very own Inspector Gadget. That's kind of you to say so, sir. But I prefer to consider my job more like "Q" in the James Bond films. Not all the stuff works in the lab, but if you look at the movies, all the gadgets Bond takes into the field save his ass, every time. And I have to live within our budget.
Just consider this "Q Branch" of the Hobbit Hole. Feel free to visit any time, put please don't touch.

Well...keep in mind that houses can be on the market for lonnnnnnnng periods without selling. So...we're not out of the woods yet.
Just about literally for me...

Just another item that might appeal to folks here. It's a "coat rack" of the kind Bilbo might have had in the hallway at Bag End. $70 at sportsmansguide.com:

But a lock on top opens a hidden box.

It's not super-secure, but you can keep a small surprise inside, safe from nosey visitors:

I'm not buying one myself, but some folks here might be interested.

Looks too small for the plasma cannon but it will probably fit the 1894.
