The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Don't make sense to me either, in the book Shelob stings Frodo on the neck.

I've always wondered that. Perhaps she got him low enough that the mail didn't cover?

See what you get for messing with the book...

Well, if you're here on the other end maybe he'll feel more comfortable. And you'll give him the courage to set out on his own...

I never gave the wounds in the tower any thought... thought they were just the old nazgul wound and the scar from the cave troll.

Very likely!

And as I said awhile back, one of the CA brothers had mentioned a possible relocation to Fort Collins at some point - before I ever said anything about it myself. He's moving to Southern California in April, so I dunno if that's still on the books, but maybe someday.

The not-marrying brother?

Maybe he'll change his mind. Isn't SoCal really expensive?

The not marrying brother, yeah. He's moving to Ensenidas...something like that? Not sure how it's spelled. There's an art school there he wants to go to. After he's done that...he may just move.

SoCal is expensive...but after San Francisco where he is now, it'll seem downright cheap.

Yeah, I can't imagine trying to live there. And the weirdoes would get to me.

Art school, huh? You've got all the talents covered in your family!

I've been frequenting a site for VW enthusiasts. It's got a forum where I can search for topics related to my car. I have found that any problem my car might have has likely been had before by someone else.

I've noticed that the forum seems to be frequented mostly by young men in their late teens, early 20s. Some seem barely literate. They swear profusely! They seem fixated on three main topics...

1. Their car (specifically VWs)
2. Naked women
3. Their own private parts.

The order of importance changes.

It's hysterical. Whenever I ask a question, they barely answer and if I comment, they don't answer at all. Kinda like their mom imposing, I guess. LOL

I think it's a riot.

the Nazgul stabbed Frodo in his left shoulder, between the pectoral and deltoid muscles... the troll's thrust struck him on the left side, over the left lung below the pectoral, and slid to the left past his body, having been "turned" by the armor...

when he sits up nekkid in the tower, you can see a round, circular wound with subdural hemotoma on his right breast... I thought that this was the wound from Shelob...

You're probably right.... I guess I'll have to watch it again.... I never gave it any thought where Shelob got him or what those wounds were.

The only part that surprises me about that is their interest in the car ;~D

Hehe!

You can tell the difference between the hordes of kids and the more mature and knowledgeable older guys. The older guys are in to restoration. The kids are in to souping up and making hotrods.

The older guys are where you get the most info...they know their stuff and love talking about what they know. The kids'll really learn a lot from them. I admire them, because they are patient and enthusiastic. Also, they answer me. :-D

I love observing stuff like this. Unlike the whistle forum where everyone was just idiots.

In the book, I thought Shelob got him through the throat, which would have been exposed. Didn't notice where she got him in the movie, I just remember he started foaming at the mouth.

I mostly just read on that VW forum...or ask an occasional question totally on topic. They aren't my community and I told talk about anything else but VWs.

This is my community!
