The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You ol' flatterer you! *wink*

I'm 32 and proud of it. It shows I survived this long despite my impetuousness! :-D

Easy to navigate? Girl, the ground is mostly flat, the streets go straight north/south or east/west, and with the mountains in plain view, you always know which is which! It's so easy to navigate, it's scary!

I was nervous about that, too, I'm used to much more rural area, but it's kinda fun living "in town", especially when you can get out of town so quickly.

Read any Steven King?

I like Tommyknockers... And Thinner.

I've read others I can't remember the name of.

Nope, don't care for King.

I really like old 30s mystery novels, outside of SF, but you don't get much of that.

Have you read either of those two? They're all different. Delores Claiborne is another good one, but it's not a "thriller".

Entmoot is one of my happiest memories, doncha know.

I've still managed to resist watching the video. I'm trying to wait until ShootMoot so we can all see the things we did and laugh together as we're freshly reminded of them.

Hafta get up early to help people get to school/work, so I'd better go have my shower and read now. See you all tomorrow.

Saw a very brief trailer.

Earth in space, Louis Armstrong sings "What a Wonderful World"...Earth blows up...mid-explo, freeze-frame and the words "Don't Panic!" (Those of us who know, know.)...Explosion ends...title card: "The adventure begins when the world ends" or some such.

Thriller, not horror. I draw a series line at horror. Barely read H.P. Lovecraft and these days his stuff seems funny... Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhagin!

I don't do horror either... I picked those two because they aren't gory, only suspenseful. Particularly Thinner. No one dies. The guy has a curse put on him where he keeps getting thinner and thinner.

Whenever I leave my comfortable little town, I'm forever getting in the wrong lane and then panicking because no one will let me OUT of it and everyone gets mad at me.

Hopefully it's a bit easier there! Of course, any place gets familiar after awhile. I just hope I can avoid getting killed in a panic before I get used to it...

I bet they don't stay mad.

I didn't see your remarks as demeaning at all, actually.

Honestly though, I think his earlier work was better. But I think that applies to just about every author out there, doesn't it?

He has one called Intensity that takes place in a 24 hour period. Now THAT book was a page-turner and a half.

The cool thing about Koontz is you never know if you're gonna get a typical serial killer vs detective story or a supernatural/sci-fi novel or a wacko anarchist with OCD trying to take over the world tale.

I happen to have a fairly decent collection of mysteries from the 20s through the 50s...a few more recent, but the bulk of 'em from that era...
