The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Morning all!! Rosie, wanted to thank you for keeping me pinged!!! I really appreciate it! *hugs*

Sorry I have been absent lately, but since we decided to do the homeschool thing, life has geared up to keep me busy. On top of that I was sick Sunday with some kind of bug that gave me horrible bouts of vertigo. I ran only a slight fever, but I couldnt move at all, I felt that bad.

Seems like only yesterday that I put up all the Christmas decorations. Now I am having to pull them down.

Will check back in a few minutes!!

How's it going? Are you letting your daughter de-school for a little bit before you jump into the full time home learning?

Good morning, Alkhin! Monitor your hearing! I had horrible vertigo that started right before I lost the hearing in my right ear. You start hearing a roaring sound, get thee to the ER!

It's really strange to see an ocean that calm. The pacific is never quiet like that.

Yours are smarter than mine! If I let them out of their little run, they'll get soaking wet. If I keep them in their run, they seem to perhaps be constantly reminded of the coop and they stay inside it. Like every time they turn around they think to themselves "Oh! There's a dry place!" But when they are outside, they think to themselves "Oh, isn't there a dry place anywhere in the world???"

I really believe that chickens live mostly very much in the moment. No memory at all. You'd think they'd figure out that when I come out shaking the can of scratch, they'd go to their pen, because that's where I go EVERY TIME. Instead, they all crowd around me squatting right in front of me when I'm trying to walk, I'm constantly afraid I'm going to step on one or take a tumble and break a hip or something!

Still, I love 'em. I really love those poor beasts.

If everybody jumped into a mountain of fire, would you do that too?

No, but I'd be glad to give you a push....

Things are winding down here. Sister is leaving tomorrow and I'm thinking Saturday is just too soon. It's really hard because I'm not sure I'll be able to get back until next Christmas. I'd really like to come home for Harry Potter next summer, but...

Dogs have probably ten times the brain power, though, and they do the same thing. Except for the squatting. ;~D

I still complain about 'em, but it's weird not having people who are weird like me around.

And it's really nice not to have to do my own laundry.

I once had a welfare client say "I'd rather have you on my nerves, than out of my life..."

Thought it would make a great country song. ;-)

Yup, yup...

It would be nice to have them around, say, several days a month. Maybe the moving to Colorado part was a mistake. But on the other hand I have firmly established myself as a seperate adult person, and I wasn't sure that would ever happen if I stuck around.

The longest stretch I was ever away was two years. Considering what I spent on phone calls to try to kinda make up for it, it would have been cheaper to have gone home - several times.

No, you've done remarkably well with this move. And you're right, you needed to get away for a bit to become "Jen" and not just "Jen of 9." ;-)

It's a three year program, right?

I know it doesn't seem like it to you now. But, trust me, when you're as old as I am, 2 1/2 more years really isn't all that long.

Think about, Corin wandered onto these threads about three years ago...

Oh, it's either a 2-ish year program, or indefinite, if I go for my PhD. But no guarantee I'll move back. As far as living is concerned, Colorado is almost ideal.

Heh, and so far I haven't spent sleepless nights crying for my mommy, so I'll be fine.
