The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Did my duty. Granny paid for her own lunch, actually, and we only had to spend two hours with her. Did all the errands for Mom, too. Now I'm just going to sit and relax for a few minutes.

I wanna go home.

Need to clean. We're having music night for the first time since before Christmas, and I've hardly been home. It's a pit.

Yeah, I watched it. Not sure I understand. And is Kyo the ONLY true guy in the whole thing?

Shigure and Hatori are fairly male, but otherwise, yeah.

It's weird, yes. Try to look at it as mostly a coming-of-age story rather than... whatever. Have you seen.... episode 8, I think? Hatori's backstory? That one was very touching.

Shigure, I'm not so sure of. Hatori is cool. Maybe the coolest character.

But I actually finished it, and I still don't understand the curse.

Oh, um. Well. Let's see. The curse I don't understand either. When I find out I'll let you know... possibly it's to isolate them. Everyone in the family is seriously messed up. Tohru coming in changes that... I guess is the point. Maybe if the story had really finished it would have made more sense.

Shigure's just weird. But on the other hand apparently a better parent than any of the actual parents.

There are a lot of missing parents, for sure.

And the ones that aren't missing...you kinda wish they were...

I don't get Akito, especially - why he has ta die. I'm assuming he's the dragon, but beyond that...huh?

Oh, no, Akito's not of the zodiac (and Hatori's the dragon, remember? Seahorse?) That's apparently the other part of the curse. I'm not sure what's going on there but possibly next month's volume of manga will explain more... There are 14 volumes of manga and the anime only covers the first 8, which is why it feels unfinished.

And yeah, the story seems to be about highly disfunctional families.... Kyo's teacher is a good substitute father, though.

Akito's NOT of the zodiac?

I knew Hatori was the seahorse...but since I hadn't seen a real horse, I guess I thought that's what he was. Making an assumption based on English, I guess, wasn't I? Doesn't necessarily translate.

Kewl...he's the dragon? I'm that year, too. Heh...

No, we don't meet the horse or the rooster in the anime. Yes, seahorse = baby dragon, apparently, in Japanese minds, so Hatori's a seahorse.

I'm a boar. Gloom. Kagura annoys me. I guess at least I'm not year of the rat.

Oh, now you've gone and spoiled it for me.

I'm not watching it now.

Let me know what you find out on Thursday about those classes. I have not read the book "The Well Trained Mind" but have heard good things about it and may try and locate it at the library this week. Those books looked great...it's hard to know how much to buy and where to stop especially when you want to buy them all and get really caught up in a period of history.

I'm thinking some kind of introduction to Latin would be good and I really want to find a good program to teach Rebecca how to type...it's much better than this hunt and peck system she has going on right now.

Like just about everyone else in that show...

Bilbo has the anime style hair thing going a lot of the time, but not necessarily intentionally. Heh...his hair doesn't lay flat, so if it's at ALL long, it looks crazy.

Yes, but Yuki had a female voice actor, too. I give Momiji a pass because he's little. There's just no excuse at all for Ayame, though.

You've just been spoiled by anime-without-bishounen, like Fullmetal Alchemist!
