The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I still feel kinda sorry for Snape...almost like the guy.

Of course, part of that may just be Alan Rickman's fault, but...

He's a complicated character. Some of his problems are definitely his fault, but he has tried (and succeeded?) to redeem himself.

He's a good guy, not a nice guy.

Yeah, I guess that about sums it up.

And you can't help wishing he'd try a little harder to be likeable.

We're having a bigger than usual Christmas this year because of visiting family. It sure adds up fast!

..."Well, I'm home," said Sam.

Finished.

OK, what do I win?

Heh, I have had many long discussions about Snape... Harry's about the least interesting character in the books, everyone else you can discuss forever. You know who I feel sorry for is Remus Lupin. Poor guy, he's lost everyone that matters to him, on top of the whole werewolf thing.

Is it too early to get our hopes up that Sirius is only mostly dead?

Gak! I'd almost forgotten about that!

Ours is a little bigger - I now had to think about presents for ecurbh's family which is new... We have more to spend than last year, where we really pled poverty, but we are still (ecurbh is still) trying not to overspend more than we should.

Sigh... how could you forget... well, you haven't invested as many man-hours, emotionally, into the series as I have, I guess.

She's an evil author, she is.

Getting hyper-organized early really helped me. I was able to keep an eye out for deals and rearrange monthly budgets throughout the rest of the year accordingly. I'll probably hit the home-dec after-Christmas sales with an eye toward next year's decoratin'.

Heh. even in that Snape get-up, he's still quite nice to see and especially HEAR!

It does help that my family does the draw-names-and-buy-only-one-present-each thing. Otherwise, we would have had to split our means among my parents, 3 siblings plus 2.5 spouses (one sister is engaged), plus 4 nieces and nephews, plus Hair's family.

I agree about Snape : not a NICE guy, but definitely not evil. At best he is just crabby and will go out of his way to make sure that no one bothers his world of potions. Gotta love him for that.

I guess I must not be terribly good at sleuthing things out, because beyond finding out more about the animosity between James and Snape in its early stages, I still dont understand why Snape does the things he does ie stand up for Harry when he needs it, provide potions for Lupin etc. I *do* understand his hatred of Harry though : its amazing the kind of grudges people can pass on to offspring. Experienced that kind of spewing hatred myself. Had the misfortune of crossing paths with a school administrator that had locked horns with my mother once or twice. He transfered that animosity to me and made me pay for it.

I still have to make an effort to forgive him. Completely uncalled for.
