The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Evening Corin - and so another season and year passes before our eyes...

Outside had 1 (one) wreath. Everything else was attached inside, like the candles in windows.

Significant progress was made inside today, accompanied by director and writer narration of the FOTR-EE and the first disc of TTT-EE.

Guess I'm among the few that waited until all the EEs were out to listen to the commentaries.

Evening Hair, our vet said that since our dogs have been walked so much around town, they develop a different type of toenail, blunter and thicker, and if we ever had them trimmed to tell the person doing it that the dogs walk on concrete. Haven't had to but it's kind of interesting how the nails would change.

I also cut out all trans fats, and use olive and canola oil in place of Crisco. I still eat butter and mayo, but just in more modest amounts. I use the oils instead of the butter for my cooking and save the butter for where I actually want the taste. Like on popcorn. I don't eat cheap peanut butter...I prefer to make almond butter (raw almonds ground with canola oil added. I spread it on high-fiber low-carb bread. mmmm!)

I monitor saturated fats, but eat the other things to offset them when I do eat them. The blueberries, black tea, raw almonds and yes, the wine. I eat a dose of at least two of these things a day.

I haven't had a chance to rub it in my doc's nose yet...can't wait to go back. The local blood bank checks total cholesterol gratis when you donate. My last total cholesterol was 170.

Anyway, I read that red Zinfandel lowers cholesterol so I drink 4 ounces an evening as a dose. I sip it slowly though, because I really am a lightweight and may end up swinging from the chandalier if I'm not careful! Makes me sleep like a log, though! Still, I had that headache before I drank it last night...it knocked me out but a couple of hours later I woke up and felt like a jack hammer was being used in my brain. Drank my aspirin (Alka Seltzer) and Steve sat up with me till five AM! Finally got back to sleep and slept till 9am!

ACK! Mighta shoulda skipped the wine last night.

I gave that a lot of thought this afternoon...

We had 5 wreaths outside... 4 hangin' on winders, and one HUGH one on the beams over the front porch... a simple garland with white lights around the doorway...

seein' as we don't get that many passers by, I cain't see goin' thru much more'n that... mrsnad wants tuh hang a few strands of lights next year... I can deal with that...

Trees and indoor stuff comes down this week...

we still ain't listened tuh all the commentaries... and pro'ly never will...

We got most everything down and packed up. We're staring at the tree, the lights (all 1,100) of 'em are still on the tree. I've thought about boxing in a corner with door like Corin mentioned, and just wheeling it out next year. (Just need a spare corner)

We'll get the rest of the stuff down and packed in boxes this week. But next weekend, afore it goes back to storage, we're cleanin' out ~the attic~.

Jr's already said "I'll do the part over my room..."

At least I have another almost-week here before heading back.

I haven't even watched the second disc yet, much less the commentaries!

Neither have I. But that's no reason to kilt the thread.

Decisions, decisions. Fellowship EE, Towers EE, King EE. Would that all decisions were that hard.
