The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm thinking of getting a little electric heater that plugs into the lighter socket. I could go out, start the car, start the electric heater, scrape the foulwhitecrustycrap (frost) off the windows, get in and go.

The car starts and drives well in cold...but the heater doesn't kick in good until much later.

Nice tagline... by the way.

So you love hair in your nose? Well, I suppose it serves a purpose, yes... but I don't if I love it.

OK... OK... just kidding...

You spelled it right in your tagline. Just kidding. :-)

Heh... I had to go check my translation, just to be sure.

I'm gonna go hit the couch and find a movie to watch. Good night!

We just finished watching The Big Empty

It was one of those quirky, sci-fi sorta, comedies. Sean Bean plays a guy called Cowboy, who helps interstellar travelers on their way. It was pretty funny in parts, but it was slow getting started.

If you remember the old movie Harold and Maude, Bud Cort, the guy who played Harold, plays a guy named Neely in this movie and is the third person seen on screen. We had to go back and check the scene again when we saw his name in the cast. It was him, 35 years older. ;o)

In your situation, I think my first thoughts would have been the same : get this guy to a hospital. In which case, my heart would have softened.

I guess I am thinking of a young man who hit me up for money and a ride when I was leaving the hospital after volunteering the day, telling me he had no money and no one wuld help him to the bus station, and that yes, he had talked with the Pastoral Care director about money, even though I had spent the morning making rounds with him and could I please just give him a ride, when my truck was amongst a hundred other cars in a large parking lot and no one around to see it happen.

That, and he ended practically every phrase with some exclamation to God...not in itself a bad thing, but I was acutely conscious that there was no one else around.

I felt bad turning him down, but all I could think of was "what if he dragged me off somewhere."

Like I said, I'll probably get a good talking to by Christ for that one, but I had been attacked in that area before. I was lucky that day.

Alkhin:

As a single, pretty defenseless woman, I think your instincts are right on. Better to inconvenience someone than to get into serious trouble. Don't feel guilty about it.

Just checkin' in on my way to bed...

I got a 92%. Average error was only 9 miles tho. Couple of them flyover states are hard to place on a blank slate.

Evenin' Mornin' whatever the case may be...

Here with themovie in. But I'm really up 'cause I gotta find some paperwork for tomorrow. Gots a headache and would like to get to bed...so I'm freeping...I'm so confused.

Had Jr's "Winter Holiday Concert" tonite. They did it at a theater downtown. Theater rotates letting area schools use the facility. Although this was the last performance for a couple of years. Rennovations start right away.

The concert title was PC. But we were pleased to hear the male chorus sing "Lo How a Rose Ere Blooming." And the ladies did a spiritual. Lot's of "Merry Christmas-ing" as well.

All the groups were pretty good. I did think that the strings should have tuned up before they started playing...

...then they started and I realized it prolly wouldn't have mattered.

I got 92%! I put S. Carolina further North than it should have been. Don't know what I was thinking cause I know it's right above GA! I did it 392 seconds. That's kind of tricky for the Midwestern states without any sort of visual clues like FL and CA have, and the gimmies like AK and HI!
