Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Though we pass them by today...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Boy, that's a young Robert Duval...I think the earliest I've ever seen Robert Duval in a movie was "To Kill a Mockingbird".
Happy New Year to you and Rose!!

I think the query letter / full manuscript deal must vary. The sample page I found for that book I want - shows a few sample entries - has one company that says to submit the full manuscript. So I wondered...if you wait or try various places.
But I think you're right...it wouldn't be right to try more than one at once.
Considering it's sounding like it can take up to six months to get a response - even just a rejection - I'm thinking I should work fairly quickly if I want my rejection slip by the end of the year! ;-)

would one send out a manuscript, wait for the rejection, and THEN send it to another publisher? Or send it out to a bunch in hopes of getting accepted by one,Well, that's a good question. I think Jen is right about query letters; most publishers don't really do anything with unsolicited manuscripts. But on the other hand, most of them take months before sending notice of acceptance or rejection, and I just can't see waiting that long before sending a manuscript to another publisher. Rose probably knows more about this than I do, but she's sleeping in...
I want to publish what Rose writes anyway, so haven't really looked into sending out manuscripts, etc.

I'd love to get her input!
But let her sleep in, first. ;-)

I'm almost certain you don't send to multiple sources. Once they accept a story, they need to know they really have the rights they think they have.
Yup, fairly quickly is right! I'm aiming to get my rejection slip with a short story which should at least be a little faster...

I wish I had an idea for a good short story! I think that may be the way to go.

Heh, should be sleeping in myself... stayed up too late playing "Neverwinter Nights" last night. But, had to get up to be ready for the guy replacing our car's windshield. He's outside doing so even as I type...

I don't have an idea for a short story, either! Oh, well, surely I can come up with something.

Your lack of a short story idea quilled the thread...
If you come up with an extra idea, let me know!
I think I've almost written myself out of the corner. Almost.
But I'm not sure I understand what is happening. Aren't you kinda supposed to understand the symbolism in your own writing? Kinda? Oops.

Um, well, I never do, so...
Spent a frustrating hour trying to hook a computer up to the tv but it didn't work. Later we'll move my sister's desktop out to the living room so we can watch anime and sit comfortably.

Yeah, but when my character is having nightmares even I can't explain...it's kinda disturbing.
Anime...ya know, I think I'm gonna have to watch Fruits Basket alone. So far siblings keep saying "Yeah, sometime we should..."
I'm not willing to wait. AND I need to finish and get it back to you!

Yeah, watch it. It's an ok one to watch alone. Enjoy. Try to watch the first two episodes together, so you'll see where it's going.
Or you could watch lots tonight...

We're going to First Night tonight - bothers are playing, for one.
And then leaving at nine or so to go out to the house for junk food and (eventually) champagne.

But that isn't until six...
So...
After I'm done chatting with a friend and bugging you, I may go watch. Maybe it'll give me some nicely twisted ideas for the next part of the story. I'm about to introduce the main guy.

Well, you do have some time before then...
I don't get champagne, gripe gripe, because the parents have already left for their party and I'm the only over-21 in the house...

Fruits Basket is the most insanely twisted yet utterly sweet story. You might guess that already ;-)
It's less happy-sweet-shoujo than FMwS, though!

I love that particular Twilight Zone episode. I just looked up To Kill a Mockingbird on imdb; it came out in 1962. I checked on Robert Duvall, too, and it looks like it was his first movie.

I'm guessing Dad'll let everyone down to Margaret at least have a taste. Maybe Stephen, too.
OK, off to write a bit more. And watch Fruits Basket...
