New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |

Still round the corner there may wait |

Years and years ago, our old lab, Gifford, had licking, scratching, stinky "issues". Our vet finally figured out it was an allergy to commercial dog foods. Nowadays they sell specially formulated dog foods for allergy-prone dogs.
We haven't had very good luck with Predisone. Samantha was on heavy doses during her chemotheraphy, and she was constantly thirsty and couldn't quench her thirst no matter how much water she drank, she "leaked" no matter how often I took her outside to relieve herself; she ate but was never full. Of course, Homer may not have any problems taking it, but the dog food route might be easier and cheaper to try first.
Ooh at this point I hope it is a flea allergy rather than a food allergy. Food allergy would be harder to manage with two dogs... just switch them both I guess. We'll see.
Do you think someone abandoned him, or is he just lost?
No idea! I don't think he wandered far... if he's lost, they haven't looked for him in the obvious places.
I'm behind then.... what are questions?
Would be a shame if he's just been left...
No need to worry about behinds...
It's a simple one actually.
If I've read correctly amidst all the holiday chaos, the dwarfs with Bilbo, as well as Bilbo, traveled on ponies.
So then is Gimli's aversion to riding something PJ made up? (I can't recall from the books).
Yay! The van is inspected for another year! That was fast.
Cost me thirty bucks, though. *sigh*
But it passed, then? No other work required? That's good, at least!
Yep. I'll take what I can get...
It still costs too much for something that takes ten mintues to do, IMO.
*grumble grumble*
I am persuing your idea of having some of my story from another angle. Just a bit of outlining for now, but I wonder...
The only catch would be that it would make it harder to keep any secrets from the reader (as if I'll have any, but...), since the main guy knows pretty much everything the gal wouldn't. So...guess the thing to decide is if it's worth the trade-off: losing the mystery in order to have more action and humor.
What if you did his part in third person and don't show everything he thinks? Might that help? Make it more distant than the other POV.
Even without what he thinks...he would be hearing and seeing things that I haven't revealed in her POV. It's inevitable. She doesn't have a clue about her past...he's a part of her past, in a way.
I guess if I wait to throw him in until after she's had more revelation, it could work. It'll be tricky...but I do like the idea of it.
Daughter got her most favorite wish granted by having a WHITE CHRISTMAS!! Nine inches in Bay City where we were...I know they got more than that south of us. That was a thrill and a half. We tried making a snow man but none of us had the right clothing to deal with the cold. And it was almost too beautiful to disturb.
Went up to Seguin to visit relatives there. Had a very nice visit. Came back down on Monday and on Tuesday took a trip down to NASA to see the Space Center there. We had a blast!
Howdy, Alkhin!
So...you got our white Christmas? I wondered where it went... *sniff*
This is the first time EVER I think we didn't have a white Christmas. We had pouring rain on Thursday and it melted everything.
It's all white again now, but...man!
I suppose I should be happy it was warm! ;-)
No... he didn't make it up... I remembered this passage, and that Gimli did indeed ride with Legolas.
There was great wonder, and many dark and doubtful glances, among his men, when Éomer gave orders that the spare horses were to be lent to the strangers; but only Éothain dared to speak openly.
'It may be well enough for this lord of the race of Gondor, as he claims,' he said, 'but who has heard of a horse of the Mark being given to a Dwarf?'
'No one,' said Gimli. 'And do not trouble: no one will ever hear of it. I would sooner walk than sit on the back of any beast so great, free or begrudged.'
'But you must ride now, or you will hinder us,' said Aragorn.
'Come, you shall sit behind me, friend Gimli, said Legolas. Then all will be well, and you need neither borrow a horse nor be troubled by one.'
A great dark-grey horse was brought to Aragorn, and he mounted it. 'Hasufel is his name,' said Éomer. 'May he bear you well and to better fortune than Gárulf, his late master!'
I'd like to get in on the writing discussion thread!
Maybe it's just the difference between horses and ponies?
Okay, from that I get the impression that Gimli didn't consider himself worthy enough to ride such a great horse.
But from the movie I got the impression that he didn't wish to ride at all. Am I misremembering?
I'd hate to think I'd have to watch it again. ;-)
It was exciting. Most of it melted away by the end of the next day though.
We took pictures, and I am hoping to get them up on the puter soon.
In the movie he is portrayed in TTT as not being a good rider. He gets on and has a hard time getting the horse to go during the warg attack, and he falls off at another point.
