The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Yes, actually. They put in a bid for a condo that is about 15 min away. Haven't heard if it's been accepted.

You could add a new storyline with a different character and throw in chapters of that.... I haven't read enough to make any suggestions.

I wonder...

It's in the first person, so that might be tricky, but I suppose it's a possibility, maybe.

We'll see what happens here. Maybe I could write his side of the story as well, and he could be a very different character.

Then I'd be stuck with the dreaded "meanwhile...", but it could be interesting, just the same.

I've been perusing the real estate ads in Austin. We're thinking of buying a condo or small house for David to live in while he's at UT doing his PhD work. He'll be there for another 5 years, and the cost of the mortgage on a place would be close to what he's paying in rent right now. If we can find a two or three bedroom, he could even rent one room out to a classmate, if he wants. That would help pay at least half the monthly cost!

Good luck to the in-laws. When might they expect to hear if the offer was accepted?

You're right about the free food being a good thing.

But can't they just give it to us without all of the blah-blah-blah?

The only fun thing will be giving my manager her wedding shower gift. It's a surprise! She's getting married in 2 weeks.

Not sure how long it'll take to be accepted. I think in MD the sellers have 72 hours to decide.

The inlaws offered the asking price which is completely in line with the market. The sellers did well with it as an investment. They paid about 40K less for it 6 mos ago. They're a newlywed couple trying to get into a house.

If you do your homework, condos can be an excellent investment.

Yay! Finished the old notebook.

And got an appointment to get Van-sama inspected. Also good.

Need to run out and make sure I have all the paperwork they're gonna ask for.

Pray for me. I'm going to try again to read The Silmarillion.

In previous attempts, it's been a sovereign remedy for sleeplessness, and not much more. But I'm shamed by my wife making it through, and my now-18yob reading it not once, but several times.

So... I'm trying! I'll read the thrilling tales of Enumaperreanavanillabean and Wannakissabiggbassaloola and Hominahominahomina, and all the songs they sang and... and... zzzzz.....

You can do it!!

HEY EVERYBODY!

Steve is home for the next FIVE DAYS! I'm glad, but will not be here that much. Expect me when you see me. I have the laptop strategically positioned under the bunkbed for ease of sneak freeping when I can.

Ooh, I need to start it!

Are we gonna do writing discussion in January, too?

Writing discussion? You mean something more formal than now?

I dunno! I'm happy with the way things are...

Just didn't know if we were gonna do anything off-thread, or more formal. I'm open to ideas...

I'm not sure I'll be able to keep up with much more than one forum.

Hmmm... well, I always liked the stories. Dunno what advice I'd have for you. Read 'em as myth rather than novel. Maybe that would help.

Sigh... Ran some errands for my mom, and stopped at the MediaPlay just to look... they had manga 25% off. But I was good and only got the new Rurouni Kenshin - was amazed to even find that this week.

That's fine! I was just checking.

And I know sometimes I talk about it way too much here. I get the feeling I must annoy people...which is why I asked.
