The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Oh and they may be ugly, but my stomach growls every time I look at one!

I and Clare's Girl Scout troop did "Pictures with St. Nicholas" at the Holly Fair this year, for the families to get their kiddies' pic. There were only a couple of kids who were scared, but it was funny to watch them. One little girl was in her Dad's arms, and if he tried to put her down, even 10' away from St. Nick, she'd start climbing up his leg screaming! We didn't force any kids, but I tried to make the parents feel better by telling them that it just happens sometimes, and maybe next year, the kid will be fine.

I wondered if that explosion were anywhere close to you.

Told her "You sat here worryin'. I did something about it and everything's fine."

I might have to borrow that to use on a relative or two of mine...

Gooooood morning!

Am happily back at work. Where it is nice and quiet. And I don't have to entertain anyone. And the TV isn't blaring for the hearing impaired. And there aren't plates full of cookies and other yummies within arm's reach.

Inlaws are going home today. Hopefully. They're flying on U.S. Airways so who knows.

Regardless, we had a great Christmas! :)

Interesting comment, because indeed, one person did bear it all.

And that's something I've heard many times...but when something like this disaster happens, it gives us perhaps a bit more understanding. I mean...here I am and I can't even fathom that many people being killed. It's a number too big for me to grasp. But Christ died for not only them, but for everyone who ever lived or ever will live. It's just...staggering. I can't even feel *grief* for the victims except in a vague way - but he took on all their sins, and mine, and everyone else's.

I'll stop with the preachy bit too...but it does make one think, doesn't it?

Good morning!

Another day at the office. *yawn*

I have coffee today. That's a bonus...

And I have to see if I can get Van-sama inspected today. Nothing like waiting until the last minute...

Don't get me wrong. I like the inlaws fine and I enjoy cooking big and entertaining. But... today is day 7 of the visit. It'll be good to get back to the usual routine.

I need a new pillow.

On the other hand, lack of deep sleep means I have some wacky dreams.

Not sure the trade-off is worth it, though...

You had an opportunity last week, probably, to hint about needing a new pillow ;~D

Oops.

You're right! It didn't even occur to me.

I guess I needed more sleep...brain wasn't functioning in top gear.

Well, now you are on your own ;~\

So what do you dream about on your bad pillow?

Well...guess not always good things.

Like getting lost in a building where I couldn't seem to get between the floors. I was trying to get to the highest floor, but I kept ending up in the basement.

Heh...
