The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I have a beat-up mossberg 500 that has definitely seen its better days. The safety is broken.

safeties are over-rated... specially onnuh house gun...

My mother makes us swear regularly that if she ever makes us as miserable as her mother makes her, we'll shoot her.

I have a similar understanding with Jr. Although mine's more health related, as in "don't let me get like that."

Concerns me a bit that Jr's already considering the weapon of choice.

Just put off the will as long as possible... make sure you are worth more to him alive than dead.

Actually I thought it was a reference to the first Homer, of Illiad fame.

I'd be happy to give him advice... and training...

Or a field pumpgun for that matter. My high school vintage stevens 12 pump had it removed. I simply carried it with brass of the shell exposed, better than a safety. Closed it with the pump as I shouldered it.

Yeah, well, I keep suggesting we stick said grandmother in an alzheimer care home and claim she's forgotten she has it...

So does Jr also have instructions to pull the plug if necessary?

'cept this one is broke in the way that it just keeps falling "on" for no particular reason. It's really annoying. Time to go to the 870 methinks.

I only own that one because an old friend was going through a divorce and wanted to sell off a bunch of his guns. He sold me that mossberg and an old argentine mauser for $100 fer the both of 'em. He got the better end of the deal, but I wasn't worried about it at the time.

Agree on the safety matter completely. I never use one. The only safety switch that matters is the trigger. What annoys me about the POS mossberg is that the broken safety always slips on in between shots. Most distracting. :-)

Osage: I rather like your method. I'm gonna have to try that.
