The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Agreed...it would be a real kick to have him show up...I think that Jackson probably would, since Legolas is King Thranduil's son. What a hoot if Legolas is one of the elves that gets drunk!! LOL

Billy and Dom as Fili and Kili! That would be fun too LOL! Only, *I* personally don't think those two are as funny as they seem to think they are. But then, I have a very twisted sense of humor...Billy and Dom's brand of humor is more Monty Pythonish in character. I can laugh at Python humor, but it's more like *snerk ha ha that's cute*, whereas lines about Jackson Pollock and polaroids from Red Dwarf have me rolling for days. Don't know what the difference is in those two brands of British humor. I just know one hits my funny bone harder than the other.

I think it has something to do with the level of outrage and self-deprecation.

Here's the picture of Andy's knives.

They're ready to ship, except for a cover letter. 2J, how do we "know" Andy? As far as I know, we're complete strangers, and he's about to receive a token from us that could only be described as "princely" in Tolkien's world. And while princely, it still isn't enough to express our pride, admiration, and gratitude. HELP!

Wasn't he one of the Mirkwood Elves? I thought it was his father who was supposed to have been keeping an eye on Gollum.

Again we see that all the trouble points back to the elves...

I believe Andy is the son of a friend of Cecile's, who, I think, is a homeschooling friend of 2J's. 2J can clear that up for you.

What...straight to video? So who's in it?

Pretty close! It was in theaters this summer, tho I never got around to seeing it. Has the usual cast-o-characters: Julie Andrews, Anne Hathaway, Hector Alozono (sp?) plus a few newbies. JRD for one! He gets all Gimli in spots.

We were approached in the parking lot at Home Depot by a very sad homeless man asking for help money for food. The guy had two black eyes and other bruises and swelling on his face. One eye looked bad, the whole white of his eye was red. I asked what had happened to him and he said he had been beat up the night before.

Well, jeepers, all I had in my wallet was a $20, and I have counseled too many folk in deperate situations to have the urge to just give him money, but I was at a loss. Even knowing the resources I know all I could say to him was... "You have to get to a hospital and get that looked at!" Yeah - easy for me to say. I didn't feel like I really helped so I left and called the Emergency Shelter Network, where I know people, and talked to him about what options there were for the guy. They'd help him if he was downtown, but they can't come get him. I ended up calling Tumwater PD, hoping they could come and help the guy get to at least a shelter, if not the hospital.
