What a wonderful Christmas gift!! Did the nursery staff put her in a stocking for pictures?
Morning Sam - Merry Christmas to you and your family of archers. We welcome them to the fold :-)
The 'preferred' wood is the one you can obtain and build a bow with. Having said that, many do like yellow wood better than the white wood.
It's amazing to a lot us that so many are returning to their roots in archery and building wood bows these days.
Merry Christmas, Sam & Snippy!!!
Well...Brother called. We're not eating until 6:00.
We just got through watching Ben Hur and are getting ready to watch Pride and Prejudice. Sister thought that 6:00 was a little late to wait so we roasted the turkey breast she bought.
MMmmmmmmm....turkey....
our kids don't get HUGH numbers of presents, we prefer to give thoughtful, useful items, and our family and friends are more than generous... theneighber that gave me the likker gave theboy an old, mint condition erector set, and thegirl an electrical experiment kit... we gave 'em books, art supplies, coveralls, games, wristrocket slingshot, hearing and eye protection...
but by far the greatest hit were a pair of bows from the Master Bowman... a copperhead hickory bow fer thegirl, and an osage stickbow fer theboy... with the weather warming up this week, they'll be out shootin' 'em fer sure... thanks Master Osage... your generosity and skill humble me... God bless you and LSA, sir...
btw... the girls jacket is real suede leather... we got it at theusedclothin' store fer $7.00 ...
this is the pic that went out with our Christmas Letter...
God bless you dear friends... with a very, merry Christmas, and a happy New Year... we're goin' tuh naybers fer fellowship and chow... check back in tuhnite...
lookin' intuh plantin' a few Osage Orange/Bois D'Arc/hedge trees on the ridge... for future bowmakers...
Sounds perfect for Christmas, though!
God Bless your family this Christmas and in the New Year!
Merry Christmas!
I almost convinced the parents to get DDR for the boys, but not quite. They got short swords and shields instead (wooden). It's lovely here. Except Grandma is being a pill, but what else is new?
Merry Christmas!
Half of us are down from the dinner. I am embarking on research for my new project - I'm going to build myself a PC. It's quiet. Wow.
Paul went to pick up a friend who was visiting relatives cause he lives up here and his parents are down in FL. I told Paul to bring him here for Christmas dinner. Brandon is like #4 son because he spent SO much time at our house when they were in high school. They just walked in so I'm going to finish dinner.
Clare can't wait to play DDR; she likes the mix of songs on the X Box version.
Have a nice evening with your family.
Evening OT - the turkey this year was smoked, that is quite tasty. Warmed up nicely hear, lower 40's so Gypsygirl and us had good long walk to settle our respective repasts. She was quite the oven guardian this afternoon.
We had a beautiful sunset, the blue sky and the clouds layerer in purple and gold. LSA remarked that it was appropriate being Christmas Day, the birthday of the King of Kings, the royal purple and golden crown.
Evening G'nad - Thanks for posting the pictures, the smiles on the young 'uns faces are all the thanks I need.
Those old erector sets are pretty kewl, I had one has youngster handed down from my uncle. We built robots and cranes. I imagine theboy will be building a trebuchet for the defense of Minas Tirith in no time at all.
LSA was baking up a storm last week, we made up some gift plates of her biscotti, three kinds, 'bolitos' and pan cookies and delivered them last night and this morning. Needless to say, we didn't gift them all away. LSA is enjoying a coffee and irish cream whilst I type.
g'nad, now that is planning and initative. The MDC nursery in Licking MO sells seedlings, pretty reasonable as I recall.
Sounds delicious. We had ham and turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, broccoli casserole, corn, rolls, and two lovely wines. And for dessert, birthday cake!
The movie was definitely my biggest, best present...but I did get some other nice little things.
One of 'em was a small crockpot. However...it's the very cheapest model rather than the one I had mentioned several times as a good "useful" gift if anyone was so inclined. It's only a 2 qt (which is actually not a horribly bad size, but a little smaller than the one I had mentioned), and only switches from off to on - no high and low. Best I can tell "on" = "low" on most crockpots. That's the setting I'd usually use, so I guess it's OK. Hate to look a gift crockpot in the mouth, so to speak!
I also got Harry Connick Jr.'s Christmas album - I've wanted that for awhile! And a coupla other good CDs, plus a REALLY neat gift from EMS - a nice Nalgene water bottle (I love those - they're indistructable and VEY light...great for hiking!) FULL of Lindt truffles. My kinda present! From the same bother that gave me the crockpot, so I guess I can't complain toooo much. Heh...
And our old pastor was here for church this morning! He finally retired a few years ago, much past the usual retirement age, and he's just wonderful. Didn't give the sermon, but it was so good to see him again!
Teresa spent a lot of the day reading The Book. Heh... So far only thing she's said is that she "really, really liked the story about the pie". So I guess it's good I left that in for her, even if it comes out in the brutal editing stage!
Oh! I meant to say...any chance you could get a picture of the quilt? I'd love to see it!
