The Hobbit Hole XVIII - Though we pass them by today...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 12/20/2004 9:01:36 AM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Though we pass them by today...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Now that's what I call a good neighbor!

It's quiet here. Mom went to get the old lady, and Dad's doing some secret errands. He was asked to get hosiery for all us wimminfolk and didn't protest at all, so he's probably up to something.

Mmm, it's smelling good... our Christmas eve dinner is going to be tacos, and the meat is in the crockpot now. I want to eat it already!

Merry Christmas, you two!! David's home for the month, but he's been telling me how much he likes Austin. Sure beats the temps we'll be having this winter!

OH DEAR!

ecurbh and I went to the little store next door and found this guy laying in the doorway, cold, hungry, lonely on Christmas Eve. He's been hanging out there all morning, they said.

He's laying on Logan's old dog bed under my saddles in the living room.

He's a little flea bitten (I put some Advantage on him)... Older, a bit arthritic. He's wearing a brand new collar though, and he seems very used to being indoors. He's acting a little lost, whining sometimes when it's too quiet.

I printed out a big flyer with is picture on it to post at the store. No one is open today to take down his information at animal control or at the newspaper. All closed for the holiday.

Hey looks a great deal like our hobo dog we had at Thanksgiving! I hope blends in with the others.

God Bless you, HOTD. That boy was meant to fall into your hands today.

We hosted a beagle in our all-white-dog household over Thanksgiving, and found the owners the following Monday. He ate like a horse.

I hope he has a home that is looking for him! He does look like the one you had, what happened to your dog, did you give him to me?

My Gidget is a little territorial and b*tchy... She's tried growling at him for some perceived greivances. He doesn't appear to feel threatened or challenged by her. He'd prefer to just walk on by.

God Bless you HOTD for taking in this sweet baby, and making sure he is warm, safe, and fed on Christmas. I hope his family is still wanting him, and that you can connect with them after everything opens back up. Merry Christmas to you and your family...

My husband is a little stressed out by the whole affair so far (heck.... I'm a little stressed out). No idea where to put him tomorrow when we go to Christmas. I just wanted to tell y'all so you'll encourage me to do right by him, but was a little too shy to post a whole thread for it.

Thanks for visiting the Hobbit Hole! Maerry Christmas!

Thanks.... He doesn't smell very good. If he's staying tonight, he's getting a bath.

If anybody will do right by a dog, it would be you!

I never understand folks who will buy a collar, but won't buy a tag to put on the collar (which is the whole point of the collar). The beagle who wandered into our yard had a collar, but no tag, either.

Merry Christmas to you, too.

My dog ID tag is big, it not only has our phone number on it, but it says in big letters "I should never be running lose, if I am, please call"

Hair - and that is why you went to the store and you kept Logan's bed. 'Nothing happens, except what is meant to be'. You were there and now newdog has shelter, food, and caring guardians.

As others have said, ya done good, real good.

He climbed the fence and split the next day. We haven't seen him around and hubs was just fretting about him today since it has been so cold.

I miss him. He was a nice doggy.
