Well, I really can't criticize most of our foster parents. Most of them, at least the ones that I have worked with, are wonderful and loving people. Many have adopted the children they have been foster parents for. Unlike the old days when foster parents were never allowed to adopt, now they have the first option with the children that are already in their care. We need far more of them, though, because the ones we have get worn pretty thin. This area is growing, and unfortunately, the situation is getting worse and not better as far as child protective service is concerned.

One good thing that Clinton did was to sign ASFA, which put a time limit on children in foster care. Well, at least it is a good thing for the younger children. It allows the parent(s) just so much time (typically a year) to get their act together, or their rights can be terminated and the child placed for adoption. It is a problem with older children though. Often these children, by the time parental rights are terminated, are so damaged and/or have such behavioral problems that nobody wants to adopt them, besides the fact that they are harder to place anyway due to their age alone.

It is not the foster parents that I have a problem with...just the system. Knowing that someone is having to scrabble around trying to find a place for him must be surely troubling to a child. If we had orphanages, there would be no problem, as he would be placed in short term care until the situation is dealt with satisfactorily. And I do not think that an orphanage has to be clinical nor cold.

"Knowing that someone is having to scrabble around trying to find a place for him must be surely troubling to a child."

I've no doubt of that, especially given that most do not understand why they are not able to go home. Children are incredibly forgiving, and however awful the environment they come from, it is all they know, and in most cases are anxious to return to it.

Could be worse..
I could be singing an altered version of Whitesnake's song "Here I go Again"

Chorus normally is "Like a drifter I was born to walk alone."
In the altered version it's "Like a stripper I was born to lose my clothes."

LOL - I remember getting the electric shock of my life when I had my "record player" out on the Lawn and had to plug it in to an extension cord. Sat me on my ass and all I wanted was to play my 45 record of Buddy Holly!!

LOL - David has a HUGE box of the LONG PLAY albums of Chet Atkins. In fact I think he has every album Chet Atkins ever made. They are 78's of course.

OMG you just reminded me of something. Years ago I used to have the habit of washing out my panties and hanging them on the towel rack in the bathroom to dry. David HATED that. So one night at some time after I was long asleep, he filled the crotch with some kind of mint tooth paste. The next morning I put on my undies and I'm telling you that burned. I was livid. I quit hanging my underwear on the towel rack in the bathroom tho.!! I told him he was "sick"!! LOL

I can't bid on you today because we are leaving town this week so any packages will sit in the cold and rain. It's supposed to drop to 29 degrees tomorrow night.
