Word For The Day, Friday, November 19, 2004
Friday, November 19, 2004 | Slip 18

Posted on 11/19/2004 4:50:13 AM PST by Slip18

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

New WFTD:

conspicuous

NOUN

This word is pronounced “cons pick you us.

Etymology: This dictionary has the etymology way too small. Where’s Miss Rika with her new eyes?

1) Obvious to the eye or mind: PLAINLY VISIBLE: MANIFEST.
2) Attracting or tending to attract attention by reason of SIZE, brilliance, contrast, station: STRIKING, EMINENT
3) Undesirably noticeable by reason of violation of good taste or sense.

At first her hair was smooth with a bit of curl..actually looked kind of pretty. Then everytime the camera was on her it was bigger & frizzier. Bet she had a 'fro by last night.

The game is gonna be painful to watch. I lean toward the Tide, but CG has this bright idea that AU should win so his kid's alma mater can have their Natl Championship. Next year I'll be pulling for the Gamecocks since they will have my hero, Steve Spurrier, at the helm.

I just got to say it. I hate the Texas Tech, pass for 500 yards, style of football. Football is about lining up and hitting people to acquire three or more yards on the ground and the repeating

We'll just have to agree to disagree on that one, though that is what I am going to be forced to watch on Sunday.

Well, you do need some passing. The occasional long bomb and a few short routes. Passing is the icing ont the cake. Some teams are all icing and I'm amused when those ones lose.

No Passing this week, as C.Mart runs for 200.

No way. The Browns run defense is still pretty solid. It's the Browns offense that stinks.

I know. Atleast your Jets have the excuse of losing Pennington.

This game looks like an "under" to me.

This year it's a shock when the Jets aren't an Under team.

RE: conspicuous existence....

That was downright CREEPY how spot-on that described Clinton. The need to always be around other people feeding his ego made me immediately think of why he was so easily lured (?) by Monica.

The point total is 37.5

The under looks too easy.

I hate Katie,
Even more than Slim Shady,
Of the whole fourth estate-y
She is most irritating,
So won’t the skank perky one please shut up, please shut up?

Tom Brokaw doesn’t flash his colon on TV,
But she did, even before I had my coffee.
But I prefer that view
to what I am subjected to
When the camera on her face is,
and on a daily basis
I endure what passes for wit,
From this perky git.

And conspicuous by their absence
Is any sort of balance,
Or judgment, taste or talents.
Matt Lauer is a putz,
But he doesn’t have the slut’s
Fake perky smile,
And they send him away every once in a while.
From their rating shares,
You’d think they’d clue into that we're not asking "Where is?"
or even "Where his hair is?"
But “Who the hell cares!”

Yes, I hate Katie,
She's just too blue state-y,
And her ego needs deflating.
Let's replace her with this lady,
So won’t our own Ann Coulter please show up , please show up?

Mornin', everybody ! Happy Friday! TGIF!!

The story you don't hear:

(This happened the day before the Marine shot the wounded terrorist.)

The Liberal-biased media is QUICK to air the story about this Marine that shot the wounded terrorist. But you can BET they won't tell THIS part of the story since it doesn't serve to tear the U.S. and Presdent Bush down.

-----------------------------------------------------------

- A young Marine and his cover man cautiously enter a room just recently filled with insurgents armed with Ak-47's and RPG's.

There are three dead, another wailing in pain. The insurgent can be heard saying, "Mister, mister! Diktoor, diktoor (doctor)!" He is badly wounded, lying in a pool of his own blood.

The Marine and his cover man slowly walk toward the injured man, scanning to make sure no enemies come from behind. In a split second, the pressure in the room greatly exceeds that of the outside, and the concussion seems to be felt before the blast is heard.

Marines outside rush to the room, and look in horror as the dust gradually settles. The result is a room filled with the barely recognizable remains of the deceased, caused by an insurgent setting off several pounds of explosives.

The Marines' remains are gathered by teary eyed comrades, brothers in arms, and shipped home in a box. The families can only mourn over a casket and a picture of their loved one, a life cut short by someone who hid behind a white flag. But no one hears these stories, except those who have lived to carry remains of a friend, and the families who loved the dead. No one hears this, so no one cares.

Hey, does anyone have a good recipe for stuffing that I can make next week for Thanksgiving? I usually just do from-the-box during the year. All of the recipes I have seem to require sausage or something, and that doesn't really appeal to me. Also, I will be using it as "dressing", meaning that I'm not going to stuff the bird with it.
