KLOL, 101.1 FM announced Friday that station has changed formats. The station switched from a classic rock format to a Latino music format branded as Mega 101.
KLOL is now branded as Mega 101 FM. The station's web site was listed as under construction, but KLOL's former morning show hosts Walton and Johnson announced on their web site that they were informed Thursday night of the change.
The radio hosts stated on WaltonandJohnson.com that, "Thursday night Walton and Johnson were informed by lower-level management sources via a last-minute phone call that there would be no Walton and Johnson Show tomorrow. In it's place would be Hispanic music programs."

Sound like Miami, the top 5 stations there are all Spanish
language, looks like the melting pot is stuck on low.

Rock 101 was THE major radio station in Houston for years. I am loss for words. Back in the Day it was K101 with the Run Away Radio logo. I High School that is all I listened to. That is the station that Hanna Storm got her start.
Hell has indeed Frozen Over.

I quit listening to KLOL years ago, due to its slide into raunch 24/7, but this is not an improvement...

Remember back in the early 80s...they had a bumpersticker with a metal head with a lightening bolt going in one side and out the other? Coolest bumpersticker ever, I believe...even to this day.

If I remember correctly, KLOL was the longest running Rock radio station in Texas.

Yeh, Houston FM radio has sucked for years. Used to listen to KLOL back in the early 90s, but lately it seemed to be one long metalhead rift interupted with an occasional lame sex joke.

It got my attention. Latinos are now a dominate force in Houston. Strange how no mention in the Houston Chronicle.
Don't forget Stevens and Prueitt (sp).

I was at Outlaw Dave's house for a party one night but didn't know who's place it was. I saw a KLOL neon on the living room wall and thought that maybe it was a "prize" years ago.
It wasn't until I heard his voice that I put 2 and 2 together.

Does this mean that Moby & Matthews actually won the Houston Rock War of the 1980's?
Have the Prison Guards informed Matthews of his belated victory?

Seems like we all thought of humblegunner.

I am shocked that a major radio station converted to foreign language station. We had one here in Atlanta (though the station was hardly a market leader; it has been through several formats in the past couple of years) a few months ago that went all Spanish -- Cheap Channel operated, no less.
