Hello. A year ago my beloved cousin was killed in a car accident. Today, I was on google and happened to think of the tragedy. I googled her name and found your site. this is the link: http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1012399/posts?page=9

I do not see why you people have to make an issue out of her death. not everyone was disrepsectful, but as you can see some were.

I am not a political person - I'm not a liberal. but come on - why do you have to make fun of the dead? would you like it if I posted about your dead mother or brother so that others could lampoon and crack jokes about her political belifs?

do you have any respect for her family?

I was quite saddened to see people who never met this girl judge her. I dont care if you disagree with her political, grow up.

Somethings you just have to ignore and take the highroad - making fun of a tragic event serves no purpose other than to highlight your own idiocy.

Its easy to judge someone when they act like an idiot in public

Perhaps you need to take some of your own advice.

Welcome to FR.

I am saddened by the loss of your beloved cousin. If she was.

Go peddle your guilt elsewhere.

It's quite easy to navigate this site. You can click on a username in any thread, and it will allow you to respond to any poster.

Instead of attacking the entire board, you should send specific responses.

No one on this board is happy about your relative's death, but you're not gonna get a lot of mileage here trying to defend her political views.

I read the thread... no one went too far.

This is a public message board, as your post immediately after signing up proves, therefore you could have also focused on the replies that were more gracious.

And just thank God you're not related to Rachel Corrie...

Wow, Sorry about your Cos, but man, you just generally lumped a whole lot of posts that were not critical at all, into the negative. I think I saw some pretty compassionate remarks as well. Why didn't you comment on that? Why didn't you say thanks for that instead of just launching into a negative diatribe? there are two sides to every coin, and if you are going to bitch about one, then at least mention the other for fairness sake!

Welcome to FR.
There appears to have been a lot of sympathy conveyed
on that thread to both your cousin AND your family.

A very small minority. ....Certainly not enough to condemn the website as a whole. Instead of starting a thread to whine about it a year later you should've addressed the individual posters on the offending thread in question. ......and now that you're a member you can still do it.

So life is precious and should be defended and protected. Did this mean she was against abortion?

I'm sorry for your loss, but it's not tragic, it's a terrible accident.

Im sorry for your loss ...This is a website ...many people say lots of things on websites that are insensitive or cruel,(I certainly have)it is a result of the anonymity of it all ....The young woman at 18 was simply doing what many 18 year olds do , Again, sorry for your loss.

I truely question why you would even come here an bother register just to lay a guilt trip on people that by your own statment are Idiots.... if you are looking for apologies you have come to the wrong place... yeah some people here definatly have some dark humor to them.... that is how most people get thru life.... if you are resigned to taking life so seriously... don't you never get out alive...that was qouted form Eldred Hubbard...

Yes a family members death is tragic... but to expect those who don't know that person to encounter the same emotions show how little you understand of the human creature...my suspcison is that you found this and by your first couple of lines claiming that you are not liberal and have no political agenda is a smoke screen... you will probably run back to your friend saying how mean us right wingers are.. go ahead...I really don't care.. it is life move on.org!

I am sorry for your loss. I have a son, 17, and that's my big nightmare- that a car accident will take him from us. It's a tragedy, and nothing funny about it, regardless of political views.

Hey... it was a senseless loss. Nobody said anything other than their humor in her 'protest' activities.

If she was paying attention... she could be out there today and 'doing-her-thing.

So goes life... lighten-up.

Welcome to freerepublic. Sorry for the loss of your cousin. Sounds like she was a great kid. (Who, besides me, wasn't a liberal when they're 18?)

I hope your family has drawn closer to each other and to God after such a horrendous loss.

There were 22 posts on that thread, and the lead one said: "Of course I mourn for the family and for all those affected by this accident. I didn't post this to make fun of Melissa Howland - because the story about her accident is tragic."

And no one was happy she was killed, so don't try to make that inference. The driver of the other car, aged 17, was wearing a seat belt, and he wasn't seriously injured. The article noticeably didn't mention if your cousin was seat-belted, and if not, we can all learn a good from this.

My condolences to your entire family, and I hope that your grief has subsided to the "tolerable" level. Trust me, time is a good friend in recovering from such losses.

I have no idea how you found that one thread among countless thousands, but nobody was happy that your cousin was tragically killed in that accident.

Since I have no idea who you are even talking about I know that I couldn't have done anything requiring the high road or low road. Sorry about your loss. Everybody loses someone and it hurts. Don't be slammin people in general because its somehow only your hurt. Now, carryon with your grief in a adult manner.

Very sorry about the death of your loved one. Please don't paint everyone here with the same brush. May I suggest you go to the thread you mention, find the posts that you disagree with, and click on the [post reply] button to directly address the person who made the comments, rather than the other 100,000+ registered users here.

Again, I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. I pray God will comfort you in your grief.
