Well, you know what's funny to me???

What is funny is that we will reject a Black Woman With Two Ph.D.'s because she happens to be pro-choice. However, we are expected to roll over an die for a Senator from Pennsyvania who votes 70% of the time with the Dems, and who lied his ass off to both vanquish his primary opponent AND his general election opponent.(I say roll over and die, because President Bush came to town in PA and shut down the campaign of the REAL Republican in PA, Pa Toomey.) AND, upon securing his latest reelection, the incumbent announces in no uncertain terms that he is not on the same wavelength with the President vis-a-vis federal judges, and that one of the things most dear to his 'base' -- that of the pro-life agenda -- is for all purposes dead when he becomes the Judiciary Commiittee Chairman.

Now, I thought that Orrin Hatch was about as bad as we could do in an appeaser-Republican. but now, we have the Philadelphia Inquirer rep on the Committee.

What are we going to do about Arlen Spector? And how do we get him to respect the mandate that constitutes the results of Election 2004????

You ask, 'Why do y'all re-elect him?' And to that I say: 'We keep trying to elect somebody else (Pat Toomey) but President Bush keeps swooshing into town and skewing the elextion towards the 'guy I can count on in the Senate.' Now that has never been true -- Bush could never count on Spector -- and if Bush thinks he has Spector's vote now, well, whose fault is that?

But the big question is: Why do the Bushies always opt towards status quo when their base is frantically telling them the exact opposite??? Spector will be a huge diappointment, as he has always been.

And tell me, just for grins, when the the GOP tells me that we need to appeal to 'moderates' like Spector, why Santorum has statewide appeal, and why Toomey came within 5%of knocking off a 20-year Senator...;-)

Or...are we even allowed to talk about things like this now, since 'Loose Lips Sink Ships'????

If Frist lets him chair Judiciary, Frist might as well hang up any hope of a good showing in Iowa when he's running for President in '08.

Conservatives dominate the Republican Caucuses. And our vote counting system is winner take all.

I am strongly opposed to forcing Grassley into taking a chair he doesn't want. But I think this problem will resolve it's self if we are patient.

EXACTLY! 52% means a whole helluva lot, esp. when Clinton marched forward with 42%....

But the thing I want to reiterate is that we are doing this to ourselves...there is no rule that says we have to appease the wankers on the left...but yet we do it all the time.

When Bush the Father was in the process of pissing away his presidency on the rocks of bi-partisanship, he went to see Ronald Reagan to get his endorsement. Ronald Reagan would not even see him.

I get the sense that George W. has all the constitution and more of a Ronald Reagan. I just hope he doesn't throw bones to people who neither derserve it nor would do right once they had it......

I know how you feel, but like the Walgreen's ad, we don't live in PERFECT. I am trying to take solace in the fact that HORSEY FACE and his demented wife, are not moving into the White House.

Hugh Hewitt is a butt head. Pure and simple. We should not upset this apple cart that has been running thus-and-so for a century because this is how it is done and Spector is our best shot because -- surprise -- he is our ONLY shot!!!!

Hewitt says that he 'understands' that Spector didn't vote for Bork and that he has supported 'every one of Bush's nominees'. Well, does that include Pickering? Will it include Estrada? If Ted Olson is nominated, will Spector support him???

Spector has nothing to lose by being a maverick now -- he has basically said this is his last Senate race (he will be 80 when his term is up)...

I for one have had enough of RINOs, and after this presidential election, if we do NOT have the initiative now, when WILL we have it????

Interesting... all my father's family come from NF. We don't hear often of those who have served there. A friend of mine, Navy type, was in Argentia probably in the 50s. He was a WWII POW before that.

I am extremely happy that Jean-Francois Kerry is not now redesigning the privateresidence of the White House.

But what I am also saying is that on this forum, people said at various points that I was a purist because I pointed out things that were not either Republican or Conservative -- they told me that to insist on issues in a heated race was unrealistic. You know who you are who said this.

And now, people are saying things about potential candidates that sound strangely familiar....they say they don't like this or that candidate because of single-issue views held by that candidate...

Funny, when all we were interested in was getting Gray Davis out of office, pretty much anybody would do (read: Ahnuld). NOW, of course, we reject people out of hand when these people hold the EXACT SAME views....

So which is it? Are we principled? (And all you people who ridiculed Alan Keyes, for all his pomposity, the one thing he did stick to was principled) Or are we opportunists? I'd like to know, and I'd like to know whether this forum allows us to talk about such things again, or whether we are too timid to do so because we might be 'aiding the other side'...

The days of a Ronald Reagan Republican ever being elected Governor of California are gone, maybe forever. It's quite amazing to me that Arnold was able to get himself elected. Given that a Conservative is not electable in CA, a Lib Republican is the best bet there.

When we look for candidates to serve in the Iowa Legislature, we always study the make up of the Districts in which they'll run. Sometimes we need a Conservative Republican, sometimes we need a Moderate.

Matching the right candidate to the 'tone' of the District is critical to a successful election. And the dirty little secret with State Legislatures is the same dirty little secret with the Congress: A vote for a Legislator or Congresscritter is, in REALITY, a vote for the Majority. Which party do you want to control the agenda. Or perhaps a better question: Which party do you want NOT to control the agenda.

Which ever party controls the majority determines what issues make it to the floor. Sometimes the majority cannot get your issues to the floor, but they certainly can keep the other party's issues OFF the floor. That is why I will always settle for a Moderate Republican before I'm willing to throw the seat away by insisting on a Conservative.

I wasn't privy to any of the closed door discussions regarding the Specter race, but I'm sure the senerio I just laid out probably was a part of the consideration.

And now, I'm checking out and going to bed. Rest Well, everybody.

ACK! The Packers aren't playing Sunday?! Jiminy Crickets! Ahman Green and Donald Driver are on my FFL team! What the heck am I gonna DO? Well...it's not like I'm headed for the playoffs or anything. I'm losing 1-6. or maybe 1-8. Who knows. ;-)

We are going to the Bucs game this weekend. They play the KC Chiefs.

Good news: we have great seats.

Mozie: it all depends on what their definition of dead is.

First, they said he was dead yesterday.
Then they said he wasn't dead.
Then they said he was on life support, but wasn't brain dead.
Then they said he was "resting comfortably in a coma".
Then they said that the coma he was comfortably resting in was irreversible.
Then they said that is reversable.
Then the doctor came out today to tell us that he's doing as well as he was yesterday...which wasn't so hot.

I think he's just plain dead.
