Thursday, November 4, 2004 | Slip 18

Posted on 11/04/2004 4:17:28 AM PST by Slip18

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

New WFTD:

Antinomy– noun

This word is pronounced an-tin-emee

Etymology: French or German.

1) Opposition of one law or rule to another law or rule: contradiction within a law.
2) obs An opposing law or rule of any kind: a law that contradicts itself.

Speaking of BC signs..... there is a home down the road here with a beautiful wrought iron fence and a huge picture of their son, a Marine, with the yellow ribbon tied to the fence post......... It makes me want to cry every time I drive by. I wonder if he is safe and when he will come home to them

Monday I drove past and they had lined up 8 Bush Cheney signs across the length of their yard! Eight! I was so proud of them and proud for their son that they weren't home griping and whining, and instead were showing their support for his CIC...........

Frist (Senate Majority Leader) and Cornyn (member of the judiciary committee) need to have a sit-down with Arleen and set him straight that (1) Bush went to bat for him in his primary challenge from a solid conservative, (2) his ascendance to the chairmanship of the committee is not guaranteed, (3) this posturing and threats of betrayal is NOT the way to deal with this president or with the GOP leadership.

The pubbies on the committee should bypass Spectre and choose a different chairman.

Well, His role in the Robert Bork thing notwithstanding, How do you know he isn't being told to spout that $h!T...?

If you plan to elevate someone distatsteful to your opponents,
it is useful to have someone that they think is sympathetic to their interests on your side.

I cant believe that this management team would just blindly stick to supporting an incumbent, hostile, and weak as this one was, when supporting him was at cross purposes to their
ideological driven electoral strategy, without getting something in return.

Let him talk...let's watch where he walks.....

"We'll have to see where he (Spector) stands," said Cornyn, a close friend of Bush

*snip*

I'm intending to sit down and discuss with him how things are going to work. We want to know what he's going do and how things are going to work."

I think the Republicans have been expecting arlen to show his strips......so......

Maybe Spector will not get the chairmenship.....it looks like the Republicans may deep six him if he's off the reservation and with the threats he just made to Bush in this article it looks like he's already off the reservation...... Stay tuned it's gonna get interesting.

The Baptists beat the Aggies last week, but I expect the Raiders to beat them like a red-headed stepchild this weekend. By the way, most of us Baptists wouldn't be offended by your comment because the leadership at Baylor probably lines up closer to liberal methodists than they do to most Baptists.

Arleen may need to be taken out behind the woodshed, as they say, for a good talkin'-to.*

*A euphemism for "a$$-whippin".

OH Lord it is nice to be back in an area where someone knows what I'm joking about! lol

I loved my friends in PA, but they had no concept of the weird inner workings of Texas........ lol

My husband and I were furniture shopping last Saturday and the OU/OSU game was on - we sat down in the store to watch the last few minutes and another man sat down - I asked if he was a fan, he said he went to TAMU - I said, "Oh, easy win today, huh?"............ I jinxed them..............

One antimony the Demoncat party cannot reconcile is their support of abortion and non-support of the death penalty.

Not giving any credit to Arleen. It is the two that decided to elevate him over Toomey, whose motives I am curious about.

But generally nothing is quite so simple as it appears.

Now, prior to the General Election, the ideological drive of the campaign was not as clearly evinced as it was toward the close.

In the End Bush was making naked appeals to Democrats of a more conservative mind, than his opponent could.

Supporting Arleen, even considering his roots, does not fit with that end game in mind. In Fact, supporting him in the end might have made it harder for the very people they were basing their run on, to support them.

Proeceeding, it is clear that neither The President, nor the Evil Genius behind the curtain leave such matters to happenstance.

So, If the picture doesn't quite fit, it is only wise to ponder why that is.
