Word For The Day, Thursday, November 4, 2004
Thursday, November 4, 2004 | Slip 18

Posted on 11/04/2004 4:17:28 AM PST by Slip18

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

New WFTD:

Antinomy– noun

This word is pronounced an-tin-emee

Etymology: French or German.

1) Opposition of one law or rule to another law or rule: contradiction within a law.
2) obs An opposing law or rule of any kind: a law that contradicts itself.
3) (a)a contradiction between two philosophical principles each of which is taken to be true or between inferences correctly drawn from such principles.
(b) A statement embodying an antimony: paradox.
4) An apparent or real opposition, contradiction, contrast or conflict.

"LOL ANTIMONY is a metallic substance.

Teacher is dumb today."

If you would look, you POS, I spelled the word "antinomy." So this student should go back to the dyslexic class where he belongs. Poor dear.

This is not at all related to WFTD, but I just wanted to tell someone this.

I have spoken to several friends and family in FL and OH, and even safe states of GA, NC, and TN. The margin of this election was not expected because of the efforts of the churches and average community volunteer. Personally, I was able to convince 4 democrats to vote Bush, and another 12 or so voters from my church, who did not even plan on voting, to vote for President Bush. My brother drove several first time voters to the polls, both he and I went into the booth with several voters who needed assistance, and we were glad to do so. It was the first time I have accomplished this, actually the first time I tried. I know if my brother and I were able to succeed in this, there were many others who did the same.

I am not personally taking credit for any great act; I am simply pointing out that the church and community mobilized in FL and OH and turned out UNLIKELY voters for Bush. These are people that were not accounted for in the pre-election polls.

Thank you for allowing me to express what I saw here. My part of Miami went very heavily for John Kerry, but we worked hard in the enemy's territory to squeeze out a handful of Bush votes.

The problem is this: I put everyone in alphabetical order. Unfortunately, xsmommy, is the last name. I was thinking about putting you, Miss Rika and Vastie on top because of our teacher/subbie status.

Better woman than I am. I avoid my attic when at all possible - I do not like the stairs......too steep and no handrail.

My kitchen is just typical clutter and I will get to it........as soon as I figure out how I am going to fit all of these clothes into Jax' dresser...there is no way they are going to fit.

I think I will make another cull through them and put some more of it into the plastic container for the spring and see if I can increase the Food Bank pile.

we use the rubbermaid tubs in the basement to store the offseason clothes. xsbrownie has more clothes than anyone in the house bc she has her own clothes plus handmedowns from 3 girl cousins and big sis. at one point i counted her underpanties and she had 60 pair, and i hadn't bought her any of her own!
