Word For The Day, Thursday, November 4, 2004
Thursday, November 4, 2004 | Slip 18

Posted on 11/04/2004 4:17:28 AM PST by Slip18

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

New WFTD:

Antinomy– noun

This word is pronounced an-tin-emee

Etymology: French or German.

1) Opposition of one law or rule to another law or rule: contradiction within a law.
2) obs An opposing law or rule of any kind: a law that contradicts itself.
3) (a)a contradiction between two philosophical principles each of which is taken to be true or between inferences correctly drawn from such principles.
(b) A statement embodying an antimony: paradox.
4) An apparent or real opposition, contradiction, contrast or conflict.

Please look up antimony.

Even teach used the wrong word and about half of posters (not the ones saying good morning or the weather) have the same error.
LOL

It is beautiful, 34 and clear here-I built a fire last night in the fireplace, and it really warmed up the house. The water looks like a huge pot simmering-there are clouds of vapor rising up from it, especially in the shallow coves, because the water is warmer than the air-I love the visual effect. My car should be warmer by now-back later...

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Unfortunately I'm not in that neighborhood today... I'm still giddy over our win.

Planned Parenthood--babies' worst enemy
Roe v. Wade--a law rife with antinomy
Because you're "right to choose"
Means a kid's life to lose
No abortion rights arguments win me

It is.

But, that's OK. Rememeber, Bush has no heir. We need for them to keep laboring under the delusion that they inhabit the center of American Politics, and we are a right leaning anomaly.

Now some smart fellows (Pat Caddell for One) will point out that Not only did Bush carry all of his states, but increased his margins in Gore states, Taking two, and almost 2 more large ones(Wisconsin, Pa) mandating that the let move to the right, but for now they are voices in the wilderness.

Let them stay there.

Our next (R) candidate (and it will not be Bill Owens, much as we would prefer that) will probably be a Social Moderate, meaning that those 4 million Evangelicals may stay home, and will have to be made up from Core Dem constituencies, namely

the 49% of Liberal Catholics Bush didnt get, and assorted others.

They will be unable to deal with a candidate like Giuliani, who I find infinitely preferable to McCanus. (My Pick for the last two standing in the 2008 primary season...)

Now, what is needed before then is Bush to get people on SCOTUS and DCCoA. If he does, then the next president doesnt matter so much on the Life issue.

Some editors, even in England, have no clue how to use the brains God gave them.

Check out the Mirror headline compared to the others.

I saw Rich Kasich on Fox News yesterday afternoon. I think he would be a good candidate.

Okay then here is my corrected sentence........

The democratic party in it's current "element" is like antimony.......Hard but extremely brittle metaphorically speaking.

There does that satisfy your definition?
