Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A new road or a secret gate...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

There are actually several possible prequels. Hm...
I will be editing this one, but I'm going to wait until early January. Considering I've written every day since October 11th when I starting this thing - what with NaNo and all - I may have to do SOME writing just to keep sane.
Or...is sane the right word? Perhaps no.

I admit, I'm kinda attached to the thread title, 'cause it almost fits what I'm working on.
So...one more day, I hope! Then it can be changed...

Sane's not the right word, but I know what you mean... it's glorious insanity.
The song I mentioned is a good Christian song about the dangers of pride and vanity. The title is Scriptural, even!
Sent you back your story... no rejection slip for you, missie!
And it's just wrong to like tormenting people who are in some way a part of yourself. Maybe I'm a mental masochist.

I gathered it was a Christian song. ;-)
This stuff is rockin', though. I admit I like the not-quite-so-traditional stuff a lot. Rare Air and Wolfstone at the moment...
Thanks for the edit work! I'm saving that doc on my thumb drive to work through tomorrow. I should get to bed now!
Oh, I'm excited to be finishing! This is the first story I've actually written all the way through except for the NaNo stories, which don't really matter. Now if I can just keep a bit of that good feeling in reserve for when family members see it, which they almost certainly will - parts of it, at least.

It's just that...in the air there's a feeling of Christmas...

Good night, we're going to Wal-Mart...

The elevator/lobby musak in my Bellevue office has been playing a really odd set of various Christmas musak.
But one song I keep hearing just creeps me out. Remember the song "Santa, Baby"? I forget who sang it but it was a Marilyn Monroe type voice...
But *this* version is done in the same husky voice, but by David Lee Roth. Yowsers... nauseating.

Worms. Worms to infest your brain. Leeches to infest your bath. Scorpions to infest your shoes. And liberals to follow you home from work.

Good night, Rosie! Congrats!
I've added 11 thousand words to my story since I started working on it again - that's about a fifth of its current length...

Remember the song "Santa, Baby"? I forget who sang it but it was a Marilyn Monroe type voice... Eartha Kitt sang the original version. Madonna recorded it later.
